Start with a real-deal 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible. Add in a proper restoration while keeping all the essentials original – including the numbers-matching 455ci V8. Now you've got the recipe for the ideal all-around American muscle classic.
They always say save the best for last, and so a 1971 Olds 442 is absolutely worth collecting. This was the final year the famous 442 was its own separate model, and only about 1,300 convertibles were made. Code-67 Sienna Metallic is exactly the color you want to have on a cool classic like this. After all, the earthy brown represents the 1970s perfectly, and it's a shade that is coming back into vogue right now. That's especially true on this one because there was a solid investment in a respray to make sure this factory-correct color has is a deep finish with plenty of metallic in it. It's part of a frame-off restoration this convertible received, and the investments in this one went to the total package. They wanted this one to look as era-correct as possible, and so there are the classic Firestone Wide Oval tires on the iconic Mag-style SS1 wheels (even the spare follows this formula!) Start with a real-deal 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible.
They wanted this one to look as era-correct as possible, and so there are the classic Firestone Wide Oval tires on the iconic Mag-style SS1 wheels (even the spare follows this formula!) The trim is bright, the badging is correct, and the mirror-like bumpers fit the contours of the body. And with the light tan folding roof in place this has all the appeal of a root beer float.
As much as we like the way this one looks with the top up, with just the touch of a button, the power roof goes down to reveal an awesomely correct interior. You paid a premium to get the Oldsmobile name back in the day, and so there are plenty of luxury touches throughout. It starts with the optional bucket seat interior. The saddle brown is a nice complementing color to the exterior (always nice in a droptop,) and the seats retain their intricate factory pattern. The wood paneling on the center console also matches the doors and the dashboard for a nice premium feeling. This one is really for someone who enjoys the right original details, like the dual-spoke factory steering wheel and the AM/FM stereo w/8-track is still on display. You even still have provisions for factory air conditioning.
A true '71 442 needs a big 455 cubic-inch V8 under the hood, and so it's great to still have the original numbers-matching motor in the engine bay. The big block inhales deeply through a correct Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor, and exhales with authority from the dual exhaust. As a true performance Olds, this received the right features to be both powerful and comfortable on the streets. This includes fully-boxed trailing arms and sway bars front & rear. Plus, you have power steering, front disc brakes, and a stout TH400 three-speed automatic transmission that was recently replaced.
The sale comes with all the right paperwork. It includes title documentation, owner's manual, reproduction buildsheet, service manuals, maintenance records, build receipts, and restoration photos. It all proves how well-done this rare and significant convertible is. So don't miss your chance, call today!!!
