AIR COOLED 1600CC ENGINE, 4SPD TRAN, RUN/DRIVE WELL, GR8 COLOR COMBO, DESIRABLE!

This 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible is an example of the final year Bug. So you get the best updates of the series - and a few extra ones added to this one - all while have the true nostalgic feeling of a drop-top air-cooled VW.

Owning a 1979 Volkswagen has its own level of cool. This was the final year the original and iconic Beetle was offered in the USA, and it was only in convertible form. These late-model Bugs are always a good find, because they have the reputation of quality that came from decades of knowing how to build these drop-tops with precision and strength. The example does its lineage proud. The factory-correct Mars Red was given a respray later in life, and so there's a nice gloss to show off the VW's unique curves. Plus, we always like a convertible that's bright in the sunshine. And when it's time to button-up, the black convertible top looks good against the red, and it even goes with the rubber on the running boards. The whole car has the kind of style that won't make you nervous to enjoy it out on the road. That's why many of the upgrades are geared just for that, like the minilite-style wheels that hold wide modern tires.

Beneath the black folding roof is a black interior, so you get the attractive red and black combo no matter if the roof is up or down. This still has all the hallmarks of the later Beetle, like the high-back bucket seats and padded steering wheel with Wolfsburg crest in the center. Volkswagen treated these last few convertibles as a premium machine, so you got the wood appearance package on the dash. You'll also enjoy addition of comfort features such as cup holder console, and the Pioneer AM/FM stereo w/aux input lets you have the best in modern driving music.

Under the rear hatch is the familiar sight of VW's 1600cc motor. This was built in the era of fuel injection, but this one has been switched to a newer Weber carburetor for easier maintenance. The exhaust is even back to being symmetrical under the rear (but now with a cool quad pipe setup.) These motors are known for being hardy, and this remains a strong runner. So you'll love hitting the road and dialing-in the air-cooled hum with each shift of the four-speed manual transmission. Plus, as a Super Beetle, it's a better driver with an upgraded front suspension and improved brakes.

This a final-year Beetle convertible that loves to run. It's the kind of affordable vintage motor you'll truly enjoy, but only if you're quick enough to catch this Bug. Call now!
