351 WINDSOR V8, AUTO, A/C, PWR STEERING, FRT DISC BRAKES, GREAT COLORS! PONY INT

Admit it: if you were going to build a cool Mustang Fastback, it would be something very much like this fully restored and dialed-in 1965 Ford Mustang 2+2. With updated 351W V8 power, choice options like power steering and disc brakes, a comfortable A/C interior, and a first-class Caspian Blue paint job punched up with inlayed ghost stripes, it's everything that's great about an early Pony, but with the volume turned up to 11.

This isn't a car for the purist looking for a stock, survivor-type pony. Although it maintains the purity of the original design, there's no question that this Mustang been upgraded with high-end stuff, and you can see it pretty much everywhere you look. But at the same time, it's still classically beautiful, with the perfect proportions that make the early fastbacks some of the most highly sought pony cars of all time. Painting this one in Caspian Blue paint with a sparkling metallic flake gives it a modern look that suggests some high-tech work underneath, and adding those killer Shelby GT350-inspired racing stripes ties it to the past, making for a formidable combination. Check out the Shelby-style hood and not-so-subtle hood scoop, the shiny front grille with ... Please ask for the full description.

Check out the Shelby-style hood and not-so-subtle hood scoop, the shiny front grille with attached fog lights, the louvered vent windows at the sides, and the rear valance out back with trumpeted exhaust tips poking out. And if you want to take your Shelby fanaticism one step further, a set of paint-matched side scoops also come with the sale. If you're going to paint your car a dark color, it had better be straight, and the sheetmetal underneath this strong driver-quality finish is very nice indeed. There are a few miles on this build, so there are some minimal signs of use, but it's all very minor stuff that could easily be eradicated by a buff-and-polish (especially the light swirl marks left over from car washes), and overall the deep, lustrous shine of the metallic finish matches the high-quality bodywork underneath. Bright chrome bumpers look great against the deep paint, and all the stainless has been buffed, so the whole car looks fresh wherever you look.

The completely restored interior is as striking as the exterior, starting with sporty, stock-style, Pony bucket seats up front and a matching fold-down rear seat out back. A Shelby-style, 3-spoke steering wheel warms things up a bit with its wood rim, while new door panels and plush carpets cut in correct pile and weave keep the ties to 1965 very much alive. You've probably already noticed that insanely cool GT-inspired dash, complete with a full complement of modern digital/analog gauges ahead of the driver, bright chrome accents and slick paint from end-to-end, and the fresh black dash pad protecting it all above. There's also a retro-style AM/FM stereo that manages upgraded speakers stashed throughout the cabin, and the under-dash A/C unit is blowing ice cold, R134a-treated air throughout the cabin. The cabin feels tight and neatly sealed, mostly due to the extensive use of sound-deadening materials throughout the interior, which also help the stereo sound fantastic as it blasts tunes through the upgraded speakers. And the 2+2 fastback might just be the most practical body style, with room for two in the back seat and plenty of storage space behind the fold-down rear seat and inside the neatly finished trunk.

No early Mustang feels right with anything but a small block under the hood, but this one is packing some additional firepower in the form of a 351 V8 motor. Quick to rev yet surprisingly torquey, it makes this fastback feel quick without working too hard. The engine is a work of art itself, with flashy polished aluminum valve covers, chromed and billet accessories pulled tight to the block, a 4-barrel carburetor and aluminum intake, and fresh plumbing/wiring that all make for an attractive engine bay. Even the inner fenders and firewall were beautifully finished and coated with matching blue paint, contrasting perfectly off of the chrome open-element air cleaner, shiny shock-tower braces, and big aluminum radiator up front. A smooth-shifting C4 automatic transmission handles all that power with ease, spinning a heavy-duty 9-inch rear end filled with highway-friendly gears. American Racing Torque Thrust wheels are a perfect fit, and they're wrapped in staggered 215/50/17 Continental radials with plenty of grip.
