This 1965 Shelby Cobra is a fresh build of an awesome icon. And it lives up to its speedy heritage with an extra-sleek style, impressive details, and a V8 that's equal parts showpiece and pure power.
Everything about this car is awesome, so we'll start with the most obvious part, the paint. Eleanor Pepper Gray is a great way to ink this car's heritage. After all, the color was made famous by the Mustang GT500 in the more modern remake of Gone in 60 Seconds. So you have a color that is related to Shelby heritage but with a more modern twist. And that seems fitting for a build that was completed in 2019 and has less than 700 miles on it. More than just history, the freshness means the premium metallic paint looks miles-deep with a finish that still looks wet. A low mileage car also means the fundamentals are great. The doors shut solid, the windshield is clean, and the hood and trunk line up with a quality look of a professional build. And the details are terrific for this roadster. For example, black racing stripes complement the gray, and they are painted on for lasting quality. And the red pinstripes make for a bold and well-defined border.
Plus, some of the most attractive brightwork are also some of the best functional pieces. This includes the quick-jack bumpers, roll hoop, and menacing side pipes. There's even bright accenting on the Halibrand-style racing wheels with brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/A's as of March 2022.
The low mileage also means there's been little seat time. So those classic racing buckets look terrific. Of course, it also helps that they are finished in a supple Ultraleather that is comfortable and ready to be open to the world. Racing seatbelts, a wood-rimmed Cobra steering wheel, and a short stalk shifter make for a terrific race car feeling. And there are nice details like the side wind wings and a full set of AutoMeter backlit gauges with reversed speedometer.
You can tell there's a lot going on under the hood. The V8 has a clean look and worthwhile polished components, like the Cobra valve covers and pan that seals the air grabber to the fresh air hood scoop. And low mileage means everything including belts, wires, and braided hoses have a fresh presentation. This is Ford's mighty 351 cubic-inch V8. It has the best enhancements like an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads, Holley four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and headers that feed the rumbling side pipes. It also has the right supporting components, like a Griffin aluminum radiator w/large electric fan, an MSD ignition, and a battery mounted in the trunk. The four-speed manual transmission gives you full control of all the power. And as you look at the strong chassis in the undercarriage photos, you can see quality driving details, like the tubular A-arm front suspension, four-link rear, adjustable coilovers all around, and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes.
