It's time to look retro, sophisticated, cool, and unique - all for a value price. This 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SL is a powerful and beautiful drop-top that will get your attention immediately upon arrival.
There is a survivor-style appearance on this one, and that's for a very good reason. This is an early R107, and there were only the first two model years that were offered before the new bumper laws dictated some of the styling. So this is one of the rare US-spec examples that had the factory form-hugging bumpers as intended by the designers. The SL that changed in 1974 was still attractive, but some collectors prefer a rarity like this. So when the metallic red paint shows all the right signs of being original, it is highly desirable. The value price means you can leave room in your budget for a comprehensive detail or respray, but many of us are excited about an aged-in look that signals this is one of the early examples. Plus, good care is all a Benz really needs. The superior build quality is seen in the way the flowing forms of the panels are preserved for nearly half a century.

Description
This has the color-matched hardtop that gives you a coupe-like appearance, and the black folding roof looks handsome against the red paint. But of course, these look the best with no roof at all. Just like the exterior, the interior appears highly original. The odometer is believed to represent the car's actual mileage, and so there is room for improvement. It's your choice if you want to update or upgrade any pieces, and because this shares components with the later years, much of this is easily available and quite affordable. The real allure here is the grand touring ease that comes from a luxury convertible like this. And you even have the right features, like power windows, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and air conditioning.
The 450 SL carried one of Mercedes-Benz's largest engines during its era, and so when you pop the hood, the engine bay looks like it's overflowing with V8 power. The 4.5-liter SOHC motor with Bosch fuel injection is legendary for its durability, smoothness, and providing plenty of torque. And since this comes with maintenance records, it gives you the confidence of quality Benz. This is a sports car for cruising, and Mercedes was a bit more concerned with engine refinement than all-out acceleration. So it will always provide a polished and confident drive well above highway speeds. On the road, this is comfortable and nimble. It includes power steering, a three-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel power disc brakes for the best all-around control.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual and maintenance records. This early R107 Mercedes SL is a great example of a handsome classic that is a lot of fun to drive. Who knew this kind of distinction could also be so affordable? Call today!!!
