454CI BIG BLOCK, AUTO, 12-BOLT, GREAT YEAR FOR THE CHEVELLE, RUNS & DRIVES GREAT

1967 was a great year for the Chevelle, and when you find a clean hardtop like this, it probably makes sense to build the nicest car you can around it. Bright red paint doesn't hurt, either, because you want it to get noticed, and with a thumping 454 cubic inch big block under the hood, you can afford to have a little swagger on the street.

The later Chevelles get a lot of attention, but in '67, the car was elegant, smooth, and restrained, and even in bright red it doesn't seem to be trying too hard. With just a simple cowl-induction hood to set it apart, this very attractive Chevelle was nicely finished not for the show field, but to have fun on the street. The bodywork is quite well done and the paint, while not perfect, is deep, shiny, and nicely finished so that you can show it with pride when you finally come to a stop. No stripes or other add ons, but it does have a proper SS grille and crossed-flag badges on its flanks, both a part of the SS package that also included a big block engine. The badges say '396' but today there's a bit more living under the hood, but the warning is certainly appreciated. The '67s are also neat because of their chrome details, including nice bumpers, a ... Please ask for the full description.

The '67s are also neat because of their chrome details, including nice bumpers, a shiny grille, and some of the most attractive taillights of the era.

Black upholstery works well with the red, and the interior has been nicely restored to pretty much stock specs. Aside from the red floor mats, the interior is pretty conservative, from the stock pleated bench seats to the very horizontal and linear dashboard. The bright parts and crisp detailing give it a like new look inside, particularly the SS steering wheel and nicely presented instruments. A column shifter isn't exciting, but it does help with the Chevelle's low-key performance vibe, because sometimes what you see isn't what you get and even a bright red car can be a sleeper. A digital AM/FM stereo radio slots into the original location and even uses original-style knobs, so it really blends in nicely, but beyond that it's pretty stock inside. Even the trunk is conservatively finished with a reproduction mat and a spare wheel that only needs a reproduction bias-ply tire to be straight out of 1967.

So like I said, the badges say '396' but that's actually a newer 454 cubic inch big block that's been dressed up like a stocker. The extra 58 cubes certainly help with horsepower and with a big Edelbrock 4-barrel carb up top, a Weiand intake manifold, and long-tube headers, it definitely has the moves to live up to its looks. There's correct Chevy Orange paint, a reproduction decal on the stock air cleaner, and big block valve covers in chrome, just as they should be. A TH400 3-speed automatic will take all the punishment the 454 can dish out, as can the 12-bolt out back, so don't be afraid to lean on the loud pedal now and then. The underside looks pretty original but in good shape, and a newer exhaust system sounds suitably aggressive for fun on the street. Factory Rally wheels look right and are fitted with 215/70/15 BFG radials that are just the right size for this vintage muscle car.

Nicely turned out and only a little bit sneaky, this is a great-running big block Chevelle that's ready to enjoy at a very reasonable price. The fact that it's red is only icing on the cake. Call today!
