A triple-black 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible is always appealing, but when it's an ultra-low production numbers version of the special SLP Firehawk package, then it's absolutely irresistible. It delivers 345 horsepower, the control of a six-speed, and a rarity that would make some Ferraris jealous.
We love cars from SLP. They're a performance boutique that builds with the kind of quality that even some 4th gen F-bodies were sold directly with GM's blessing. So while this SLP Firehawk had its own production code, it was far from an assembly line car. In fact, this is believed to be only one of only 400 Trans Am convertibles made in the final body evolution (1999-2002). It's important to remember that this was the last year for the Firebird. That means you're basically looking at the last and greatest from a prod Pontiac tradition. That's why this example has been treated with particular reverence. The black paint is the factory application, and its condition reminds you this has only averaged about 225 miles annually.
The level of gloss and shine it retains will fill you with pride every time you show this one off. And these really did have an awesome style with the pointed front end, Coke bottle curves, and special rear spoiler. Plus, the Firehawks have their own distinct composite Ram Air hood with built-in heat extractors. And little touches of brightwork draw plenty of attention to the big quad exhaust tips and the polished wheels with Firehawk logos.
The black leather interior joins the sleek paint and taut-fitting roof to give you the ultra-desirable triple-black style... and we have the window sticker to prove it was born this way! The ultra-low mileage means little time to wear out the bucket seats, so they still look fantastic today. These rare SLP cars only came one way: loaded. It includes features such as power seats, power locks, keyless entry, cruise control, and a premium AM/FM/CD stereo. Plus, the power windows and power folding roof means you never have to leave the driver's seat to go from buttoned-up comfort to an open-air experience. And since the air conditioning is blowing ice-cold, you can do this whenever you want and remain cool. Beyond just luxury features, a modern classic means modern safety, too. So you get items like dual airbags, anti-lock brakes, and traction control (yes, you can turn that last one off when it's time to have fun.)
Under the hood is the LS1 fuel-injected 5.7-liter V8. These were already powerful, but SLP makes sure to extract even more - an advertised 345 horsepower. They do it by letting the V8 inhale deeper and exhale with added power by including elements like a specifically sourced fresh air intake. The six-speed manual transmission is ideal for a car like this because it gives you full control over the enhanced power. And this one was born with the Auburn differential package that gives you powerful take-offs. Another great SLP addition is the full Bilstein suspension upgrade. So while this one looks like it never turned a wheel in anger, you absolutely know it's up for the challenger and fun. Add in power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and (of course) Firestone Firehawk tires, and this is a solid all-around driver.
A car this significant needs the right paperwork, and that's why the sale comes complete with the original window sticker (both Pontiac and SLP,) the owner's manual packet, and a Birth Certificate from SLP. This is a Trans Am that has been elevated for power and rarity. So it's time to grab the best of a final-year legend. Call today!!!
