If you're looking at this 1966 Chevelle SS tribute from a thousand miles away, you're probably wondering if it's as nice as it looks. The answer to that question is yes, it really is. Arguably the hottest Chevelle body style right now is the 66-67's and this one is no exception. Brilliant bright red paint, classic black interior, a 4 speed, and a fresh ZZ427 crate motor means this Chevelle is ready to tear up the night. So it's bright red, it's straight and clean, and it's wickedly fast. That's all good news, and the bodywork was definitely not a problem when the car showed up. It's an older repaint that's holding up well, with a great shine and that vivid red will burn your eyes if you look at it for too long. They didn't shave anything, didn't modify the sheetmetal, and even the hood is a stocker with shiny chrome inserts, so it has a very factory look. Panel alignment is quite good, the gaps are neat, and like I said, the sucker really attracts attention. It's not a real SS, but does it even matter at this point? The right badges are in place, and if you squint, you can make out that the badge in the middle of that blacked-out grille does indeed say "SS 427." We'll get to that in a moment, but the point is, the car looks right and any street-savvy muscle car fan is going to be wary of what's lurking under its skin.

The interior is beautifully restored, and during the rebuild, the original column-shifted automatic was dumped in favor of a rocking 4-speed manual with a Hurst shifter sticking out of the transmission tunnel. If a bench seat and a cue ball doesn't scream hardcore, I don't know what does. The original dash is full of fresh-looking gauges, plus a column-mounted tach and auxiliary dials underneath, all designed to make this an apex predator on the street. The original AM radio is still in the dash, but to be honest, who cares about music when you have a thundering 427 under the hood? Just the same, everything was beautifully finished, including the fully upholstered trunk that looks fantastic.

The car was advertised as a 427, but when it showed up it was actually a garden-variety 396. Now, no offense to the 396 guys, but there's something special about the 427. So the 396 was yanked and a fresh GM ZZ427 big block went in. It doesn't look stock, not by a long shot, but it does wear proper 427 decals up top and when you fire it, there's a very distinct sound that no other engine in the GM arsenal can match. The engine bay is clean and orderly and while they were at it, the chassis got a once-over, too. Long-tube headers, Flowmasters, that 4-speed, 4-wheel disc brakes, lowering springs, and a bunch of other hardware went in, all designed to make this car match the dream. With shiny 15-inch forged Centerline wheels and 225/70/15 front and 275/60/15 rear BFG radials, it definitely looks the part.

Today, this is a car you can be proud of and it definitely lives up to the images you see on the screen. And once you crack the throttle, you'll know that spending all that money making it right was definitely worth it. Call today!
