This 1965 Shelby Cobra Backdraft 427 is a quality build with only 1,600 miles since completion. And it lives up to its speedy heritage with an extra-sleek style, impressive details, and a 430+ hp V8 that's equal parts showpiece and pure power.
The quality of this build starts with the Backdraft fiberglass body. That's why you have such straight lines with well-fitting panels that do a stellar job of showing off the sleek style. The '65 correct Guardsman Blue went on with care, and there's deep gloss and shine here that tells of a modern application and a professional hand applying it. This allows the sunlight to flow evenly across the iconic smooth curves. And the details are terrific for this roadster. For example, the racing stripes were painted in Wimbledon white to complete a period-correct legendary style. They even left space for your racing number on the hood and trunk. There's more competition-ready style with the racing hashes on the front fenders, wind wings, and a large hood scoop.
Plus, some of the most attractive brightwork are also some of the best functional pieces. This includes the quick-jack bumpers, roll hoop, and menacing side pipes. There's even bright accenting on the Halibrand-style racing wheels with true knock-off hubs.
The low mileage also means there's been little seat time. So those classic racing buckets look terrific. Of course, it also helps that they are finished in supple leather. Four-point racing harnesses, a firm shifter, and the wood-grain steering wheel give you the proper Cobra experience. Plus, little details like the fully finished door panels, carpeted trunk, and Backdraft racing floor mats make this feel more thoughtful without taking away from the race-ready attitude. After all, you have a dash dominated by crisp dials that are easy to see the essentials, even when you're on the racetrack.
You'll proudly showcase the engine bay with Cobra ribbed valve covers, hallmark long Cobra air topper, and the ultra-tidy setup that reminds you how few miles are on the whole build. And within the style is plenty of substance. This is a 427 cubic-inch V8. This is a true performance motor where the big block is enhanced with a Comp Cams camshaft, aluminum heads, a Quick Fuel four-barrel carburetor, and Edelbrock Performer RPM hi-rise intake. It also has the right supporting components, like a performance radiator with an electric fan, an MSD ignition, and March performance pulleys. And headers feed those side pipes to let this mighty V8 exhale freely with an impressive growl. And the dyno sheet tells us it tops out at 457 horsepower! Best of all, you are in full control of it all with the T5 five-speed manual transmission. As you look at the photos of the clean undercarriage, you'll spot some great features, like the four-wheel power disc brakes and fully independent suspension. It makes for a great-driving package on this performance-oriented machine.
The sale comes complete with maintenance records, the owner's manual, service manuals, and the dyno sheet. This is an awesome way to get a fresh look of a legend. Call today!!!
