Ford wanted to up its game even beyond the awesome GT, so they resurrected the Mach 1 package. Available for only two years, the 2004 is the preferred model to have because it's also the Mustang's 40th anniversary. The retro theme continues inside where seats are intended to recall those found in vintage Mustangs, complete with silver accents and comfort weave inserts. This is a good thing, because this Mach 1 will humiliate its older brothers when the road starts to twist. The full instrument panel has a satin silver surround and special gauges reminiscent of the early mustangs. But beyond these cool touches, these Mach 1s are desirable because you also got every option Ford could throw at a Mustang, including air conditioning, power windows, power locks, cruise control, power driver's seat, and a thumpin' stereo with an in-dash CD changer. A modern classic also means modern safety features such as dual air bags and anti-lock brakes. Just like the exterior, there has been an investment in the right upgrade, which is the very useful MGW short throw shifter.

The Mach 1 was special for another reason: horsepower. This numbers-matching DOHC 32-valve 4.6-liter V8 was packing 305 horsepower right from the factory. But thanks to JLT performance intake and headers, the figure is now 320 hp. The motor is basically borrowed from the SVT Cobra program, but featured the solid rear axle that made drag racers rejoiced. In practice, this car was awfully hard to beat in a straight line, and Ford engineers also added a host of suspension improvements front and rear to makes this a fine driver in the corners, too. So you still had most of the Cobra feel. While this has the ultimate collector's car kind of low mileage, all of this performance appeal is the reason why we bet you'll add plenty more to the odometer.
