Fed by a factory-correct single-barrel carburetor, it really runs great, starting up promptly via a manual choke and idling smoothly. The accompanying 4-speed manual transmission shifts through the gears with no issues at all, and the clutch action is surprisingly smooth. When you're out on the road, this classic tracks arrow-straight, and the manual steering is more precise than you'd rightfully expect from a VW of its era.
