With its two-tone silver and black paint and attention-commanding presence, this 1949 Packard Standard 8 is an effortlessly cool classic. A closer inspection will reveal that it bears little resemblance to virtually any other car from its era. As the 1940's arrived, Packard had already started a trend of minimizing the once-prominent rear fenders on its offerings to give them a more streamlined appearance, and by the time this sedan rolled out, they were literally gone altogether. Even now, more than 75 years after it first rolled off the assembly line, it looks downright futuristic in many respects and has come through the years in strong fashion. That paint scheme highlights its distinctive lines to perfection, and this Packard is still structurally sound and showing nice, even body panel gaps from front to back.

The interior underwent a restoration a while back and remains in very good condition, with bench seating in both front and back that shows only minor wear and sits over an expanse of carpeting that fits nicely. The dash area has been kept in its original configuration and features wood trim that was once a hallmark of automotive styling. While it could use a little refinishing to regain top form, it's totally intact and encircles an instrument panel that sports clear, easily readable gauges. This is a spacious, driving environment, with plenty of shoulder and leg room and well-padded seating accommodations, so you can be sure that your passengers will ride in plenty of comfort.

The running condition of this great-looking classic will likely come as a welcome surprise. Its factory-correct 288-cubic-inch inline V8 is in fine form, starting up promptly and pulling smoothly as it pairs with a 3-speed manual transmission that runs through its gears with no issues at all via a column-mounted shifter. While the engine compartment could use a steam cleaning to be at its best, all the factory components appear to be in good shape. And, owing largely to this Packard's substantial wheelbase, its ride quality is downright impressive. It feels like you're floating down the asphalt, making it perfectly suited for leisurely weekend excursions.
