Description
In the history of the Corvette's eight generations, each one has its own special years and models. For the first generation, beyond its inaugural year, it can be argued that this 1961 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible represents the most visually impactful year in this sports car's history. Decked out in a beautiful white repaint, complete with matching white vinyl top and white side coves, the five-spoke 18-inch Billet Specialty wheels give this car a stance unlike most other classics. This year Corvette can be identified by its three-louver side vent moldings, and most nobably, 1961 is the first year Chevy gave its halo car its now-signature quad taillight setup.
Inside, we find an original-looking, bright red vinyl interior that is classic Corvette. Sitting in front of its three-spoke steering wheel, the five-pod gauge setup featuring a broad half-moon speedometer and center-mount tach broadcasts all the most pertinent information a driver could need. An AM/FM/Aux stereo, dash-mounted rearview mirror, analog clock, and padded grab bar each add charm to this car's simple yet elegant interior.
Under the front-hinged hood of this 'Vette sits a 283 cubic-inch small-block V-8, topped with a single four-barrel carburetor that sends power through a tried-and-true four-speed manual transmission before a dual exhaust capped off with glass pack style mufflers, which give this car its unique exhaust note.
This 1961 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible rides on a traditional coil spring front and leaf spring rear suspension. Front disc brakes and rear drums scrub off speed, while the modern low-profile 225/40R-18 front and 245/45R-18 rear GT Radial Maxtour LX tires allow for significantly more traction and control than the car's original bias-ply rubber.
