This 1970 Buick GS 455 convertible is one heck of a muscle car. With the era's fattest torque curve yet festooned with luxury features like air-conditioning, it's the ideal combination of muscle and luxury. Better still, this awesome A-body is available for far less than the cost of, say, a big block Chevelle which is far more common and probably not as fast. So take a closer look at Buick, because this one might change your mind about power and luxury.

Bright red actually works really well on the GS bodywork, which was also known in lesser iterations as the Skylark. Underneath it's the same awesomeness as the Chevelle, GTO, and 442, but in Buick guise, it keeps a fairly low profile. Just a pair of functional scoops on the hood to feed the hungry 455 underneath, but otherwise quite subtle without so much as a stripe or wing. Fit and finish are extremely good, with a deep shine and great panel gaps that mean someone put in some overtime getting this one to look right. It was restored a few years ago and still holding up well, both on the street and at shows. A bit of chrome and a special grille remind you that this isn't a garden-variety Skylark, and there's no denying that the car just oozes class and sophistication.

The white over black interior is in very good condition with only minor signs of age and use. White's always a tough color to maintain, but everything is clean and tidy with just some slight discoloration that's probably inevitable no matter what you do. The dash is sporty without looking too much like a boy-racer, a reminder that the Buick was a grown-up muscle car. Factory A/C is always a welcome option and it still uses R12 to really put a chill in the air. There's also a tilt steering column and a somewhat rare AM/FM stereo radio in the dash, and even the clock is still keeping good time, making this a car that needs no excuses. The white convertible top looks brand new and powers down into its well with just the touch of a button.

We have every reason to believe that the 455 cubic inch V8 under the hood is this car's original powerplant, although it's impossible to verify. The date codes line up properly and it's very stock-looking, suggesting a conscientious owner. It starts easily and idles well despite being a torque factory with a fairly aggressive tune, and the recent dual exhaust system has just the right mix of aggressive and smooth. Backed by a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end, you don't have to worry about putting all that torque to work now and then. It's tidy underneath and while not detailed for show, you'll be confident in its abilities every time you take it out. Gorgeous Buick road wheels are some of the best-looking hoops of the era and carry fat 235/70/15 Goodyear radials that give it the perfect stance.

Heavily documented with a factory build sheet, original bill of sale, owner's manual, reproduction window sticker, and restoration receipts, this is a very high-quality GS available at a very attractive price. Call today!
