Description
While there is something to be said about owning an original Pony Car, there is an argument that can be made that there is no reason someone can't enjoy the look and feel of a classic muscle car, but also benefit from the upgrades to technology in the last sixty or so years. This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Tribute Restomod epitomizes that argument, and it is a strong one. Fully repainted in this head-turning Dark Blue Metallic, this first-gen Camaro knows how to make an entrance with its dual white racing stripes, hideaway headlights, cowl hood, and undeniably aggressive stance.
Inside, we find an interior that is possibly even more stunning than Camaro's head-turning exterior. Two-tone Houndstooth bucket seats (with a matching bench in the rear) make this cockpit feel racy even before you turn the key. A stock-style center console features a set of rectangular gauges displaying fuel, oil, volts, and engine temperature, which contrasts nicely with the staple-style shifter and sliding HVAC controls. A power-assisted, three-spoke steering wheel looks right at home and sports a new gearbox and components. The head unit may look classic, but it is only retro-styled to avoid standing out negatively, and it actually includes an AUX input to offer far more soundtrack options than the original unit it replaces.
Under the hood, we find a spectacular-looking 6.0-liter naturally aspirated L77 V-8 engine transplanted from a 2011 Chevrolet Caprice, which had a mere 29,000 miles on it at the time. Long tube headers flow through a dual-to-single-to-dual exhaust capped off with a set of Pypes Race Pro mufflers. Power is routed through a 6L60E six-speed automatic transmission, also from a 2011 Caprice, before heading out to the 3.23-geared Speedway Motors nine-inch rear end, where it is sent to 17-inch Rallye wheels shod in 245/45R-17 Sumitomo tires.
