Description

SMOOTH RUNNING 164 CUBIC INCH REAR-ENGINE, AUTO TRANS, ORIGINAL MARINA BLUE COLOR COMBO, FUN 2 DRIVE

This 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza is not just a sharp, able-looking classic. It represents a unique time in American automotive history. While its competitors were answering the call for smaller, fuel-efficient cars mostly by downsizing existing models, Chevrolet took the extra step of taking on this challenge from scratch, leaving the Corvair with a whole host of aesthetic and mechanical features that really made it stand out from the other offerings of the time. And this specimen takes that uniqueness just a bit further. As rare as Corvairs are these days, you'll see far fewer in the 4-door configuration this one features. Dressed in its Marina Blue paint, which is its original color, wearing chrome ornamentation that shows nicely, and sporting evenly-gapped panels from front to back, it conveys an impression of solid roadworthiness.

When you climb inside, you'll notice the freshness of the blue vinyl upholstery, which matches the color this Chevy rolled off its Van Nuys, CA assembly line with. The interior shows well, as you'll find no tears in the seams of the front and rear bench seats, and the carpet beneath them is free of any serious discoloration. It's got a level of functionality you'll really appreciate. The windows roll up and down without complaint, the gauges are in good working order, and an aftermarket Sony AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth connectivity sits underneath the dash. A retro-looking counterpart sits in the center of the dash to provide a more vintage vibe.

This is a classic that thoroughly delivers on its promise of roadworthiness. Its rear-mounted, 164 cubic inch, 6-cylinder engine pairs with a smooth-shifting 2-speed Powerglide transmission to form a drivetrain that's not only in good running form but also appears to be the same one this classic began life with. Turn the key, and the car starts right up and provides smooth acceleration. The brake system is reassuringly solid, and the steering tracks nicely. Featuring independent suspension on all four wheels, which was pretty rare for American-made cars at the time, this Monza has a smooth ride, with no skipping around in back as you take corners.
