Description
The first generation of the Mustang is divided into two groups, marked by the redesign of 1969. This 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, outfitted in a fully repainted version of its original Raven Black exterior, shows off the beauty that was the later years of this Pony Car's first generation. With its dual hood scoops, body-length hockey stick-style side decals, and sleek fastback design highlighted by a slick rear deck spoiler, this Mach 1 looks every bit the part of what a true 1970s muscle car should be.
Inside, we see the evolution of the Mustang interior. Plush bucket seats separated by a center console that provides arm support as well as storage are decked out in an eye-catching white and black knitted vinyl. A sporty three-spoke steering wheel with a Mustang emblem center cap sits just ahead of a three-pod gauge cluster with a big tachometer and matching speedometer split up by a smaller fuel gauge. Atop the center stack, we find an additional set of auxiliary gauges to complement the factory triplets, providing all the pertinent information a driver could need. Sliding HVAC controls keep things simple when it comes to climate control. At the same time, a modern AM/FM/CD head unit complete with USB port and Bluetooth allows for the luxury of modern technology where it can be most appreciated.
Under that aggressively styled hood, we find an equally aggressive engine. A 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V-8 motor topped with a single four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor and matching Edelbrock intake is augmented with a high-flowing aluminum radiator, dual electric fans, and Powermaster starter. Shorty headers give way to a true dual exhaust, while a set of sweet-sounding FlowMaster mufflers gives this Mustang the voice it deserves. Power is funneled through a three-speed C6 automatic transmission before being sent out to the eight-inch rear end and on to a set of fifteen-inch GT-style wheels shod in staggered Summit GT rubber measuring 235/60R-15 up front and bigger 255/60R-15 at the rear.

This 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 rides on a front suspension consisting of springs, shocks, and a sway bar up front, while a set of traditional leaf springs and shocks hold up the rear. Power brakes use a combination of discs and drums. This collectible Mach 1 also comes with a full Marti Report to provide all the provenance required for the avid collector. There is nothing quite like a first-generation Mustang, whether that is before or after its 1969 remodel, but if you've never experienced it for yourself, or just want to experience it again, then don't wait another second.
