Produced only from 1990 to 1993, the 454 SS was a limited-edition gem. It was the lightest version of the 1500 lineup, featuring a two-door, short-box, rear-wheel-drive-only configuration. With just 103,330 actual miles, this black beauty has plenty of life left on its odometer. It retains all of its original body panels, along with the addition of a rear roll-pan. This muscle truck has been repainted to replicate its original styling, complete with 454 SS fender badging and tailgate logo.
This 454 SS sports its original correct, eye-catching red interior, with dual captain's chairs, console, and factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo system. The column shifter gives the cabin a (relatively) spacious feeling. At the same time, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, and air-conditioning make for a pleasant ride, regardless of whether it is from the home improvement store or the drag strip.
Under the hood, we find this truck's namesake 454 cubic-inch big block V-8. Originally rated at 255 hp and a massive 405 lb-ft of torque, this SS ratchets things up a bit thanks to a set of Hedman long tube headers and a sweet-sounding FlowMaster exhaust. That power is then funneled to the rear wheels ... Please ask for the full description.

That power is then funneled to the rear wheels via a new-for-1991 4.10-geared rear end and a 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission. Combined with an upgraded front sway bar, quicker steering, and Bilstein shocks from the factory, the 454 SS could rocket from 0-60 mph in less than eight seconds when it debuted nearly 35 years ago.

This 1991 Chevrolet 1500 454 SS represents the beginning of the full-sized muscle truck era, and with only about 17,000 ever produced from 1990-1993, thanks to the combination of time and usage, there are far fewer around today. But with a little more than 100,000 miles on it, this nightmare is ready, willing, and more than able to show you (and everyone else) how and why muscle trucks became so popular, and all it takes is one blip of the gas.
