STRONG RUNNING 289 V8, 3-SPEED AUTO TRANS, DUAL EXHAUST, SHARP NIGHTMIST BLUE!!

In the muscle car world, Pony Mustangs are still incredible fun, further punctuated by the dependable power of the Ford small block V8. This gorgeous 1966 Ford Mustang coupe checks all the boxes, offering a sweet-running 289 V8, a smooth-shifting automatic transmission, a glossy dark-blue paint job, and a beautiful Pony interior. Mustang coupes are the hottest cars on the market right now, and this neatly restored C-Code beauty is exactly the right car for someone who loves to show-off and drive their vintage hardware.

Code K Nightmist Blue was a very popular finish on the Mustang palette in 1966 - a dynamic color with a timeless look that we absolutely love. This Mustang spent the last several years of its life as part of a large collection owned by an enthusiast that showcased it occasionally at his car museum (along with dozens of other beauties), so you know it had to be built right to earn that honor. The car was completely disassembled, media blasted, then sprayed with epoxy primer, and then the final paint layers were laid down on this coupe's mostly renewed sheetmetal. And even though a few years have passed since the restoration was completed back-to-stock, it's obvious that the ... Please ask for the full description.

And even though a few years have passed since the restoration was completed back-to-stock, it's obvious that the professional builders knew what they were doing. With so many of these Pony cars being bright red or plain old white, suddenly this mysterious dark blue coupe starts to look pretty appealing. The finish is deep, shines up very well, and has great curb appeal, but this is no longer a trailer-queen showpiece. The car's been shown-off, driven, and enjoyed through the years, and even though it may have a minor imperfections here and there, it still shows like a higher-end driver-quality coupe. With a detailed buff-and-wax, much of the car's early glory could be restored, but even as it sits right now this is one impressive driver with killer good looks. The exterior trim was also completely replaced/restored during the restoration, and both bumpers, the stainless window surrounds, and the pony grille are all in great condition, commensurate with the rest of the car. And it's kind of nice to see a base V8 Mustang that hasn't been given the Shelby treatment or even any GT fog lamps, relying instead on its time-honored, classic good looks to do most of the talking.

Inside is one of the 1960s all-time, best-looking interior: the two-tone Pony upholstery kit. The light blue-and white interior shows extremely well with well-defined seat covers that are better than most of the reproductions on the market, and you really have to look close to find any comfort marks. The detailing proves that even the basic Mustangs were stylish transportation you could be proud of, and any V8-powered pony car is guaranteed fun on the road. Dark blue door panels complement the gorgeous seat covers, and the plush blue carpets lining the floors are protected with stock Mustang vinyl floor mats. Inside the stock dash there's a GT-spec, five-pod gauge bezel full of original units that keep an eye on the powerful small block under the hood, and we love the beautifully restored 3-spoke steering wheel that anchors the cockpit and feel great in the hands of the driver. The blue dash pad is in great shape, as is the chrome shifter for the C4 automatic transmission below, and a retro-style AM/FM radio was installed and fits perfectly into the stock position. Seatbelts fore and aft add a little safety for all aboard, the rear bench has likely never been sat in, and the taut headliner above gives the cabin a very completed look and feel that nothing was overlooked in this restoration. Out back, the trunk is finished with a reproduction mat on the floor and spare tire, and it has plenty of room to accommodate most travel plans.

Just because this car spent some time in a museum, doesn't mean it's not ready for the road. Thanks to a thorough restoration and subsequent maintenance ever since, it's road-ready right now, thoroughly proven to us after a smooth, zero-issue 3-hour road trip into our showroom. Experts will check the VIN and confirm that this indeed an original C-code car that was born with a 289 V8 motor, and that's exactly what's under the hood today. Upgraded to a 4-barrel carburetor atop the stock-style intake manifold, with freshened wiring and plumbing throughout, it fires with ease and is responsive up and down the throttle. It makes great, classic noises and its bubbly, bouncy idle unwinds into a wonderful tenor wail as speed increases, mostly thanks to the dual exhaust system underneath. The engine bay was finished back to stock, down to the Ford Blue on the engine bay, valve covers, and even the snorkeled air cleaner, all of which help it pop out of the otherwise stain black firewall and inner fenders. Underneath, it's original and solid as can be (living in GA and in a high-end collection most of its life goes a long way for preservation), and a smooth-shifting C4 automatic transmission hits every gear with precision and spins an 8-inch rear end with highway-friendly gears inside that make for ideal dance partners. The steering tight, the drum brakes are good, and the killer stance is punctuated by those slick American Racing Torque Thrust polished wheels that look super-racy and carry beefy 195/65/15 blackwall radials with plenty of tread left.

This is a great-running, original Mustang coupe with a lot of recent work and an incredibly strong drivetrain, essentially reset thanks to a thorough restoration completed a few years back. Dialed-in, clean V8 Mustangs are getting harder and harder to find, hesitate and you might miss your chance to own a beauty like this. Call today!
