This 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS takes the classic look you love and gives it all the right updates. After all it has more speedy style on the outside and plenty more power with an upgraded V8 within. And yet it still keeps that good driver feeing from a comfy interior and a fresh overdrive transmission.
Black just seems like the best way to go with an SS, because it gives the coupe a lot of presence. That's why the whole car is dipped in darkness, and the only other color on the body is the bold red used for Super Sport badging. The sporty urethane chin spoiler and unique nose give the SS its NASCAR-inspired attitude, and a subtle deck lid spoiler integrates into the rear to strike the right look of subtitle speed. However, what is far less understated are some of this car's upgrades. The cowl hood up front is a great way to announce extra power, and this one fits so well into the car's overall design lines. And the size of the bright dual exhaust tips announce this car's power even when the engine isn't turned on.

While this Monte is extra mean on the outside, it never loses that comfortable cruiser attitude on the inside. There's room for six people total across two wide benches of maroon velour. But any time you want a more individualized comfort, the fold-down from armrest gives you a driver's bucket seat. It even power adjusts to the ideal position. There are more great luxury features, like power windows, power locks, cruise control, electric rear defogger, provisions for air conditioning (will need components and servicing,) and an upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo. The dual-spoke SS sports steering wheel is on a tilt column to give you a clear view to the full gauge package. And there's even an extra set of auxiliary readouts to let you keep a full eye on the upgrades under the hood.
These SS cars only received a 305 cubic-inch HO motor from Chevrolet. That's a fine powerplant, but it's no match for the 350ci V8 that now lives in this engine bay. Not only do you have added displacement, but this also has go-fast goodies, like a Brawler four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, and headers that add power with contributing to the sweet rumble of the dual exhaust. The four-speed automatic transmission was upgraded to a stout 700R4 unit, and it was rebuilt only about 100 miles ago to make sure it also offers smooth shifting all the way into overdrive. This same stout and versatile nature goes for the 12-bolt Positraction rear end. The full package includes power steering, power brakes, and front discs for an all-around fine driver.
