Description
In the history of the autoverse, few cars inspire equal amounts of fear and respect quite like this 1968 Plymouth Road Runner. Fully repainted in a beautiful sky blue hue, this throwback powerhouse is the first year for the iconic Road Runner, looking clean and straight from any angle. Based on the Belvedere body, the Road Runner was stripped down to become the most minimalist muscle car this side of a Shelby Cobra.
Inside, we find a black vinyl interior that has been restored to its original specifications, with the exception of a few tasteful improvements. A roomy split-bench front seat sits in front of a three-spoke, power-assisted steering wheel. An upgraded analog/digital gauge cluster features a 160-mph speedometer and 8,000-rpm tachometer, with a digital display front and center. Two big speakers are mounted under the dashboard and are connected to a hidden Bluetooth radio, while the cueball shifter knob provides even more entertainment than anything on the radio.
Under that aggressively styled hood, we find a period-correct 383-cubic-inch overhead-valve V-8 engine. Fed by a single Holley four-barrel carburetor, spent gases are expelled via a set of long-tube headers, dual exhaust, and MagnaFlow mufflers. That power is routed through a Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission before reaching the big ten-spoke 17-inch U.S. Mags wheels shod in Nitto rubber.
