BIG BLOCK CHEVELLE SS, TH-400 TRANS, FRESHLY BUILT 454 MOTOR,

If I didn't know better, I'd call this handsome 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS a sleeper. Clearly built for combat, the badges say 396, but that's actually a stout 454 under the hood. Backed by TH-400 and a driver-oriented interior, this is a car that likes to prowl the streets at night, looking for its next victim.

Restored a few years ago, it still looks intimidating the way only big block Chevelles can. Workmanship is good and while time always takes a toll, this car looks great motoring down the road. The dark blue paint is low-key enough to keep this car off the radar (unless you're exploring all that horsepower, of course) and a cowl induction hood adds just the right OEM touch of aggression. Black SS stripes replicate the factory look and should almost be expected on any performance-oriented Chevy product, simply because they always look great. A new black vinyl top was installed when the car was restored and is holding up quite nicely with no signs of trouble underneath, a known issue with the stylish option. As I said, there are SS396 badges on this car, and perhaps they were correct long ago, but really, why advertise that this car is more than meets the eye? Let the unwary find out ... Description

Let the unwary find out the hard way, right?

Chevelle interiors are first class all the way, and the black buckets inside this heavy cruiser are in outstanding shape. Most of the soft parts are new, including the seat covers, carpets, headrests, dash pad, and even the center console so it looks extremely fresh. It's quite stock in there aside from the auxiliary gauges mounted on the A-pillar and the digital AM/FM stereo radio in the dash. You'll note a cue-ball topped shifter lever for the TH400 3-speed automatic underneath, and it does a pretty good impersonation of a 4-speed stick shift, but when you're in the heat of battle, the quick-shifting automatic is a great co-pilot. For performance, the non-essentials were stripped away, so there's not even a heater anymore, adding more credence to the thought that this car was built for combat first and foremost. You'll even note that the trunk is stripped of ballast, leaving just the spatter-finish paint in the cargo bay.

Rebuilt just 500 miles ago, the 454 cubic inch big block V8 is a thunderous statement on the street. An Edelbrock intake was painted Chevy Orange to match the original gear, so it stays out of sight if someone wants to have a look around. There's a Holley carb on top and a massive cam inside, so it bucks and rumbles at idle like it wants to hurt someone and pulls like a freight train when you crack the throttle. Chrome dress-up items will make you proud to open the hood once you've dispatched the other guy, and it does have power steering and brakes for ease of handling and safety. The TH400 was rebuilt with a shift kit and a 2800 RPM stall torque converter, so it barks off lightning-quick shifts right when you need them. The 10-bolt rear end was recently treated to fresh brakes and that 3-inch exhaust system has a sound that you experience in your chest more than in your ears. Flashy Weld wheels wear big-n-little radials for a true street racer look.

Fast, inexpensive big block fun, this is the Chevelle for the guy who knows that hardware wins races. Call today!
