Silver Blue is a very cool color to have on a coupe, because it provides separation from the red and black classics on the road without losing the flair. It looks similar to some of the factory colors, but it's a modern clearcoat application. And that's what a '68 truly deserves. These have more defined features than the earlier years, and so a fastback like this has more finely creased lines and a more aggressive look. That all really gets highlighted when the sunshine makes the luster of this paint really pop. But the paint was far from the only investment in this classic. Just look at all the brightwork – the bumpers, rocker panels, and delicate trim – it's all straight and mirror-like. The restoration was completed in 2015 and there's been only about 900 miles since then, so there was little time to put even a crease in the bucket seats. The matching black door panels, carpeting, and headliner also feel quite fresh. This has a nice vintage feel with everything from the proper fold-down rear seat, to the AM radio that's still on display. But you can instantly tell that the wood-rimmed steering wheel is an upgrade. Beyond that is a full set of Dakota Digital gauges with a cool blue glow. The Hurst shifter is a nice indicator you're going to like what's under the hood. And because this has R134a air conditioning, feel free to roll down the windows and really hear the engine roar.
The engine bay has the polished components and tidy look of a solid investment. This started out life as a six-cylinder, and while that's a fine Mustang motor, we all really expect a fastback to live up to its name. That's why this one has been upgraded to Ford's famous 351 Windsor V8, and the enhancements didn't stop there. You have go-fast goodies like a Holley double-pumper four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, aluminum heads, and headers feeding the sweet-sounding dual exhaust. You have true control over this upgraded V8 and its rumbling soundtrack thanks to the close ratio four-speed manual transmission. This feeds a 31 spline (big block) rear end with limited slip and 4.11 gears for powerful take-offs. But more than just a pure power package, this is a thoughtful total build. That's why you have features like painless wiring harnesses and a Champion aluminum radiator w/electric fan. Plus, you have great all-around driving features like front disc brakes and the grip of modern performance tires.
