This slick 1998 Chevrolet Corvette coupe is quite a rare find. Not only is it an impeccably maintained, low ownership, and low mileage example, it's actually 1 of only 15 ever made in this fantastic color: Aztec Gold. The rumor is, Chevrolet was experimenting with this color over the course of this particular model year, (broken down in three separate groups of five for a total of 15), testing out various shades of this unique gold color on a very small number of production cars. As a result, there are practically no signs of use and wear, even in the high-traffic areas, and there's still a depth and clarity to the finish like you'd find in a much newer car. The fact that this beauty is almost 25 years old is mind-boggling, because it really looks like it was painted yesterday. The recent $3k professional ceramic coating this beauty was just treated to certainly helps quite a bit, and protects the sparkling paint job from the elements. We wouldn't call it perfect, because nothing in this world really is, but this will likely be the cleanest C5 you'll ever find. Other pleasant surprises include the crystal-clear windows, which look awesome against the gold car, the razor-sharp creases on the sides of the bodywork, and black-glass removable top. This car just looks right.
Tan leather (that might actually be Light Oak, but you get the picture) is a great complement to the Aztec Gold paint, and this C5 appears to be quite the find, sporting all the go-fast options and a host of luxury options. The super-clean interior really showcases the fact that the Corvette is a great grand touring car with a lot of style, and with everything looking so untouched and super-clean inside, this Corvette's interior really is a looker. A thick-rimmed steering wheel anchors the cockpit, and the two-tone theme of the interior really drives the point home that this is luxury sports car. It's also loaded with just about every available option, including the power sport seats, dual airbags, dual zone climate control, and a powerful Delco stereo system just to name a few. The 4-speed automatic transmission was standard and is fitted inside the black center console that is also in excellent shape. The tan carpets are plush and also show very limited wear thanks to the protection of original mats, and if we had to pick, we'd keep that glass top off at all times. The trunk/storage area is also beautifully finished and exactly the way the factory built it, with plush tan carpets and storage compartments underneath the panels.
The 5.7L LS1 engine needs no introduction, although it's somewhat disguised under the heavy plastic coil covers. In the years since its introduction, these engines have proven to be incredibly reliable and durable, and there's a huge variety of aftermarket performance parts available for them. Fortunately, this one has led an easy life and still carries its factory-spec components (sans a cold air intake and cat-back exhaust, both of which are easy to remove), suggesting that it hasn't been raced or abused. But even in stock form, the LS1 is a formidable performer, even today, and the flexible power band makes it a joy to drive in traffic or on the open road. Remarkably, most C5s are automatics, but this Gold 'Vette is still very snappy around town and the tall gearing in the rear end makes it a superlative highway cruiser. The H-pipe dual exhaust system is a bit throatier than stock (which we certainly don't mind) and it's so clean underneath that you have to wonder if this car has ever seen the rain. Stock C5 wheels are still a clean design that looks great, and they carry factory-spec 255/40/17 front and 295/35/18 rear Michelin performance tires.
