This 1966 Ford Mustang convertible is the car you've been looking for. Beautifully restored with a smooth 289 under the hood and a timeless color combination, it's exactly the car everyone thinks of when they imagine an early Pony Mustang. Professionally finished, it's very correct but features some great options and a few choice upgrades that make it especially entertaining to drive.

Blue remains one of the most popular colors for sporty Mustangs, and it's easy to see why. It's bold, sophisticated, and classic, the perfect choice for a Mustang convertible. Sure, this one was born Code F Arcadian Blue (a light, powder blue color), but the livery this convertible wears now is much closer to Nightmist Blue that was also available this year, and frankly we prefer this darker shade. This one also benefits from clean, straight sheetmetal and a dialed-in finish thanks to a recent respray to a very good driver quality standard. The paint is shiny, the color is deep, and the entire package fits together well, so the doors open and close easily and the hood lines up as it should, and you know a lot of money was spent to get it here. A clay-bar and buff would kick things up a notch higher, but even as the droptop sits today it's got plenty of curb appeal. Both front and rear bumpers are in good shape, and all the remaining stainless trim show shows a nice shine against the dark blue paint. This is a C-code car so correct '289' emblems were installed on the front fenders and it goes without any stripes or GT fog lights, instead sticking to the original recipe. You want to get noticed, this Mustang is a great way to do it.

The two-tone blue bucket seat interior is beautifully done, giving you a good idea of how clean this car really is. It's a combination of original and replacement parts that blend together very nicely, and other than some signs of use found in the high-traffic areas like the carpets and the front seats (and it's all relatively minor at that), this cabin is very tidy. We love the sophisticated effect of the two blues inside this Mustang, which prevents it from being monotone overload, and it's quite correct throughout, from the newer gauges in the bezel, the blue dash pad up above, and to the automatic shifter on the floor. An aftermarket A/C unit was installed with cleverly mounted vents stashed under the dash that are managed by stock controls, and although all the hardware and plumbing look new the system could use another charge to blow ice cold again. A retro-sound AM/FM stereo was mounted in the factory slot and manages upgraded speakers in the kick panels, a wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel anchors the cabin, and seatbelts up front provide added safety. The plush carpets on the floors are further protected with black Mustang floor mats, overhead there's a black convertible top with clear plastic rear window, and the trunk is neatly finished with a reproduction plaid mat and full-size spare tire.

The fifth digit in the VIN is a "C" which means a 289 cubic inch V8 lives under the hood and even though it came born with a 2-barrel carburetor up top, this one has been augmented by a Holley 4-barrel for additional horsepower and responsiveness. Otherwise, it appears almost entirely stock and comes loaded with every available power option. The 289 V8 is a reliable, fun powerplant that moves the little Mustang eagerly with great V8 sounds, and you'll love the way it feels like it could pull forever. The engine bay is nicely detailed with organized wiring and plumbing, a big aluminum radiator, glossy black inner fenders, and gold valve covers and a matching snorkeled open-element air cleaner up top. It's also got power steering and power front disc brakes, which are always welcome on a V8 Mustang, as well as a set of long-tube headers that feed into a fresh Magnaflow X-pipe dual exhaust system that sounds spectacular. Underneath, the chassis is very clean and tidy, offering a C4 3-speed automatic transmission and an 8-inch rear end hanging on newer shocks. American Racing 'Old Style' alloy wheels offer a great Mustang look and carry beefy 205/60/15 front and 235/60/15 rear BFGoodrich blackwall radials with plenty of tread left.
