This 1965 Ford Mustang represents the best of a first-year pony car. After all, you get a great color combo, interesting features, and it's still offered for a value price.
Ivy Green is this Mustang's original color, and today the hue represents 1965 perfectly. This sets up for a head-turning appearance because so many of these Mustangs have traded in their roots for wild new colors. But this one goes in the opposite direction, staying true to the original – right down to those great wire wheel covers with logo in the middle. In fact, this car was first sent to the Charlotte ordering district, and over half a century later it's still selling out of its original area. So this one has that well-respected local car vibe we all love. Complete trim, shining bumpers, and straight sheet metal finishes off a package showcasing a coupe that commands true vintage car respect.
One of the coolest colors to go with the dark green exterior is the Palomino tan interior. And that's the way this car was ordered from new.
It even came with the premium "pony" interior that we all love to see at car shows today. So it's great to see it looking so original and complete in this example. While this has quite a correct look, there have been some nice subtle upgrades inside. The steering wheel is now a wood and chrome unit, but it still keeps the Mustang center cap. This coordinates with the wood paneling on the dash, which is also upgraded to the GT-style round gauge package.
Since the interior and exterior have not bowed to modern conformity, neither will the engine bay. Instead of an overblown V8, this cool cruiser keeps its original-style inline-six. We rarely get to see these anymore, and so this proudly displays the long block with the bold red valve cover and air topper radiating from within the dark engine bay. You'll also love all the details – from the correct decals to correct FoMoCo washer fluid bag. The 200 cubic-inch motor fires up nicely, and it offers plenty of power to move you around town. Plus, the three-speed automatic transmission makes it even easier to enjoy the road ahead.
