Tributes and clones are a great way to get into a dream car for a much smaller price, and this 1966 Mustang Shelby GT350 fastback tribute certainly does it correctly. It the right look to make everyone at the local show do double-take when it rolls in. Plus, because it's not confined to history, you get great upgrades like a new screamer stroker V8 under the hood.
A Shelby-built GT350 will cost a fortune. They've got a following of enthusiasts who know what it takes to have a true snake-bitten Mustang. That's why it's worth extra for a nice tribute like this that gets the details right. There's just no mistaking the original GT350 appearance. It starts with taking one of the rarest and often most valuable of the three Mustang configurations, the 2+2 fastback, and making it even better looking. This one was restored to include an application of Wimbledon White paint. Plus, the blue competition stripes give it the presence that told the world this is a true American racer. Make sure to add the correct lightweight fiberglass hood with a mean-looking scoop, and don't forget performance details like the hood pins and offset pony logo in the grille. Finish it off with competition-grade torque thrust wheels, and this Shelby is just as ready for prime time as it is the finish line.
The black interior has the clean and comfortable look of a well-kept classic. It has the right everyday features like classic bucket seats, heat/defrost controls, and provisions for an AM/FM radio. But really it's the competition-ready Shelby elements that are the what will have you hooked. The back seat was correctly deleted, and a lightweight fiberglass cap was added so you can carry a race-ready full-size spare. There's nice details like the race seat belts and a fire extinguisher. You get to grab onto an iconic Moto-Lita wood and chrome steering wheel. While there's a full set of factory gauges, you'll really love the large Shelby tach and oil pressure readouts sitting right on top of the dash so you never have to take your eyes off the road for the most important info.
The GT350 was famous for its HiPo 289s, and so it carries that legendary appearance correctly. But the real secret is the performance with the V8 stroked to 331ci total. Plus, there have been plenty of go-fast goodies added like a large Holley 750 CFM double-pumper four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock aluminum heads w/202 valves, performance camshaft, Blaster coil, and headers that feed a growling set of side pipes. There's even an aluminum radiator w/electric fan to keep this total packing running cool. The whole presentation looks exceptionally fresh – right down to the bright Cobra valve covers – because this motor was installed around 250 miles ago! This performance V8 is connected to a four-speed automatic transmission with a 3500 RPM stall to keep you in the optimal powerband. This feeds a limited-slip Ford 9-inch rear with 3.89 gears. As you look over the whole build, you'll find all the right components, like a thick sway bar up front, traction bars in the rear, and slotted front disc brakes.
Complete with owner's manual and build receipts, this is a fitting tribute to a snake-bitten Mustang. So act now, because fast, fun, and iconic is a combination that goes quickly. Call now!
