Description
Some cars need no introduction. While it was originally designed as a family sedan, this 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air Pro Street is built to haul a lot more than groceries. The inaugural year for the Bel Air name, along with the two-door hardtop designation, the 1950 model already holds special significance, but with its full Green Metallic repaint, massive-scooped hood, and steamroller-sized Mickey Thompson rear tires, this race-ready coupe is truly one of a kind.
Inside, we find a purpose-built interior that is actually more comfortable than most race cars. A pair of soft yet supportive bucket seats that offer an expansive view of the gauges and controls, providing all the feedback a driver could hope for. A power-assisted Grant GT wheel sits ahead of a column-mounted 10,000 rpm tachometer, while a fuel pressure gauge sits just beyond that. A quartet of auxiliary gauges encompasses the majority of the dashboard, offering up info on engine amps, water temperature, and oil pressure. Despite its racecar status, this Chevy does come with heat and air conditioning making driving to the track an actual possibility.
Under that menacing hood, we find a naturally aspirated 427 cubic-inch V8 engine. Featuring dual Carter AFB Competition Series four-barrel carburetors, a Weiland Hi-Rise intake manifold, long tube headers, side pipes, an MSD ignition, an aluminum radiator, and dual electric fans, this big block sends power through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission before heading out to the 12 bolt rear end. Fifteen-inch Weld Racing wheels shod in huge 31-inch Mickey Thompson rear meats, while narrower 165/80R-15 American Touring Plus tires handle steering duties up front.
