Description

BELIEVED ACT'L MILE, #'S MATCH 403 V8 & TH350 AUTO, CORRECT COLOR, DOC'D, CLEAN!

You know exactly why you want a black-on-black 1978 Pontiac Trans AM (truckload of bootleg Coors, anyone?) But more than just a true Starlight Black car upgraded with SE gold trim, this coupe proves it's a desirable classic with features you rarely find in these cars – including the numbers-matching V8, the right paperwork, and an ice-cold A/C interior.

Sure, we all love a black late-70s Trans Am because it looks like the true outlaw that raced through Smokey and the Bandit, but the appeal of this one goes much deeper. First, it's a true Starlight Black original car, and it has been treated to a professional respray in 2010. You can tell they paid for quality, because it still retains and nice clear coat luster in the sunshine. Plus, it has been given the famous SE gold packaging – including the iconic hood bird that declares war on every other car. More than just a movie star with Hollywood shine, we love these T/As because they nail all the aggressive details right, like the shaker hood, fender vents, complete body kit, and the full-width rear spoiler. Of course, no Trans Am would be complete without the cast alloy "snowflake" wheels.

"Black is beautiful," is the first thing Burt Reynolds said when he saw his Trans Am in the Bandit sequel, and this interior follows that line perfectly. The high back vinyl bucket seats look good, and so does the rest of the black interior. This is the product of well-respected life (averaging under 2,100 miles annually) and replacing key elements like the carpeting and headliner. Even the three-spoke sports steering wheel is finished in black. But this Trans Am doesn't feel like total midnight inside. Just like the exterior trim, there are plenty of bright spots. These upper-class T/As are famous for the large machine-turned aluminum panel in dash. You'll notice this has all the right gauges, right down to the clock/tach combo. It has premium factory features like power windows and power locks. They are joined by terrific upgrades like the retro-style stereo that has a modern USB input, and the factory air conditioning is blowing cold with modern R134a. So it's a total package interior restored and upgraded to keep you feeling happy driving around town or on long road trips.

Under the hood is the 403 cubic-inch V8. Pontiac people know this is the engine used only for places like California to add extra torque. So it's something a bit more unique, and the it's the numbers-matching original motor for the car. It looks quite authentic in the engine bay, right down to the four-barrel carburetor and factory hood shaker that everybody remembers so well. Because you've got a nice header-fed dual exhaust with newer Magnaflow mufflers, this has a terrific sound and extra power over the factory California cars. The Trans Am has a reputation for not only being quick, but thanks to front disc brakes and sway bars front & rear, it also could handle the corners like a movie star. Plus, this one has long-haul comfort thanks to a GM's TH350 three-speed automatic transmission (believed to be original) and power steering.

The sale comes with the right paperwork, including the factory build sheet, owner's manual, build receipts, and maintenance record. You also get great extra components like extra decals for the car. It's all part of a distinct and well-presented package that takes a timeless legend and makes it great to drive today. So don't miss this deal. Call now!
