This 1993 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 convertible is a truly rare piece: a tastefully modified Fox Mustang. While most of them get outrageous body kits and towering hoods, this one simply wears a gorgeous silver paint job, a fresh black interior, and a warmed-over 5.0 that still delivers big grins 20 years later.
It's easy to appreciate the clean lines of the Fox Mustangs when they're rendered in silver. A few well-chosen black graphics highlight this car's connection to the past, but the smooth design was a triumph of styling that still looks fantastic today. It doesn't look like this convertible was ever a bargain-basement acquisition, but instead spent its life being loved by someone who appreciated what it was and knew how to choose the right parts to make it work. The paint is only a few years old and looks spectacular, a great three-stage urethane finish that shines like no factory finish ever could and tasteful black graphics on the hood and along the flanks that are reminiscent of the Boss 302, which is surely intentional. Hood pins are a neat retro touch, and if you're familiar with these cars, you'll realize that the goofy luggage rack used to disguise the third brake light on the deck ...
Hood pins are a neat retro touch, and if you're familiar with these cars, you'll realize that the goofy luggage rack used to disguise the third brake light on the deck lid has been shaved, giving it a very clean look. Other mods include 1986 Mustang taillights, clear marker lights, and new clear headlights to give it an updated image that gets attention everywhere it goes.
The black interior is also all-new, and it's great that the Fox platform has reached the point where companies are creating high-quality reproduction components. The seats feature red inserts just for a bit of sporty flair, but they are the original and highly comfortable buckets that were standard on the LX 5.0. The factory gauges are clear and legible, and the fat, leather-wrapped steering wheel puts the cruise control buttons at your fingertips, just like your current ride. The only noteworthy addition inside is the roll bar behind the seats, which gives it a Shelby-esque shot of aggression, and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo entertainment system that's probably mandatory on a ragtop like this. And speaking of the top, it's a neat fitting black power unit with a glass rear window, and the car looks great top up or top down. A few more upgrades in the trunk, including a big subwoofer and a CD changer, mean that this pony's ready to cruise.
The 5.0 is legendary for its durability, but this one sports a freshened powerplant out of an SN95 Mustang, so there are plenty of upgrades. At first glance, it looks quite stock, but experts will note the GT40 heads, the oversized 65mm throttle body and spacer, and the later intake manifold that helps build torque. It starts with a familiar bark from the twin Flowmasters, and thanks to an X-pipe, it has fantastic mid-range punch. The clutch is new and connects to a rebuilt tremec 3550 5-speed manual gearbox and the original 8.8-inch Track-Lok rear end, which is full of easy-cruising 3.55 gears so it just loafs along on the highway. Handsome Lorenzo 18-inch alloys look exactly right and fill the wheel wells with 265/35/18 front and 285/30/18 rear performance radials.
Documented with its original window sticker and manuals, this 1-owner Mustang is a refreshing change of pace and a great reminder that Fox Mustangs still have a lot to offer. Call today!
