Description

1000 HP ON 93 OCT, 615 TWISTED V8, ALUM BRODIX BLOCK SCOTT SHAFIROFF RACE ENGINE, 3SPEED AUTO, BEAST

On their own, first-generation Camaros are capable of being plenty fast right off the assembly line. But when a car like this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Pro Street is purpose-built to dominate the drag strip, the results are nothing short of figuratively and literally breathtaking. Fully repainted silver with complementing twin black racing stripes, this car looks sleekly sinister with its huge cowl-induction hood and impossible-to-miss mini-tubbed rear.

Inside, we find a somewhat surprisingly comfortable grey and black interior. The rear seat has been deleted to help compensate for the addition of the Ridetech roll cage. A pair of aftermarket racing seats, complete with harnesses, hold both the driver and passenger firmly in place, ready for blast off. A three-spoke power-assisted steering wheel sits ahead of a six-pod cluster of AutoMeter white-faced gauges. A dual-battery setup sits in the trunk, each secured by its own battery box balanced on either side of the fuel tank, adding a bit more weight on top of those massive rear wheels to help this beast hook just a little harder.

Under that aggressive hood, we find a massive 615 cubic-inch Twisted SR20 V-8 engine. An all-aluminum big block from Brodix, built by Shafiroff Race Engines, uses custom-ported aluminum heads, Shafiroff valves, springs, and retainers, along with Morel lifters and a custom grind camshaft. A single four-barrel Quick Fuel carburetor pumps 1150 cfm into the intake, while long-tube headers tie into an H-pipe and send spent gases through a full custom three-inch ceramic-coated exhaust, capping off with a pair of FlowMaster mufflers. On 93 octane pump gas, this big block beast put down a stunning 943.6 crank horsepower. That power is routed through a Monster Transmission-built TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, complete with a 4,500 rpm stall converter. From there, those ponies are herded to the nine-inch Strange Engineering rear end, which transfers power to the pavement by way of a pair of 17-inch forged Weld Racing wheels shod in steamroller-sized 29X15.00 Mickey Thompson rubber. Up front, a narrower set of fifteen-inch wheels, wrapped in 27X6.00 M/Ts, handles steering duties.
