Description
This 1979 Ford Pinto 302 we have today sits decidedly on the 'sleeper' side of that equation. Of course, the full yellow repaint, blacked-out grille, grill, and shimmering American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels shod in modern Kumho rubber hint at the fact that this isn't your typical Wayne's World Pinto, there are plenty of unsuspecting motorists who are in for a big surprise if they decide to challenge this subcompact coupe.
Inside, the updated black-upholstered interior sports a modern radio with CD player, aftermarket auxiliary gauges, a Grant GT steering wheel, and new seat covers with yellow piping color-matched to the car's exuberant exterior. These features combine to give this Pinto the spirit of a Mustang Boss 302, which it seems to have been inspired by.
Under the hood, that Mustang relationship continues with a five-liter V-8 transplant, topped with a Motorcraft four-barrel carburetor. That power is funneled through a C4 three-speed automatic transmission before being sent out to its Ford eight-inch rear end. In lieu of any sort of muffler, this car uses a set of resonators to give it a growl like no other Pinto around.

In order to handle the upgraded V-8 swap, this 1979 Ford Pinto 302 has been given heavy-duty front springs to support its newfound powerplant, while leaf springs and shocks sit out back. Power disc brakes up front and power drums at the rear rein in speed whenever necessary. There is even an owner's manual and maintenance records to go along with the package. In the automotive world, there are two kinds of cars, and this Pinto may initially get underestimated, but it won't take much more than a blip of the throttle to let the driver in the next lane know they made a serious mistake thinking that way.
