You know exactly why you want a black-on-black 1978 Pontiac Trans AM (truckload of bootleg Coors, anyone?) But more than just a true Starlight Black car with correct SE gold striping, this coupe proves it's a desirable classic with features you rarely find in these cars – everything from the numbers-matching V8 to the ice-cold A/C interior.
Sure, we all love a black late-70s Trans Am because it looks like the true outlaw that raced through Smokey and the Bandit, but the appeal of this one goes much deeper. First, it's a true Starlight Black original car, and it has been treated to a professional respray to give it extra clearcoat luster in the sunshine. Even all the famous SE gold packaging was recently redone – including the iconic hood bird that declares war on every other car. And more than just a movie star car with Hollywood shine, we love these T/As because they nail all the aggressive details right, like the shaker hood, fender vents, complete body kit, and the full-width rear spoiler. And of course, no Trans Am would be complete without the cast alloy “snowflake” wheels.
“Black is beautiful,” is the first thing Burt Reynolds said when he saw his Trans Am in the Bandit sequel, ... Please ask for the full description.

"Black is beautiful," is the first thing Burt Reynolds said when he saw his Trans Am in the Bandit sequel, and this interior follows that line perfectly. The high back vinyl bucket seats look exceptionally fresh. This is a product of averaging less than 1,700 miles annually and always being under good care. The carpets, door panels, center console, and all other key dark pieces of this car have not lost their luster. But this Trans Am doesn't just feel like midnight inside. Just like the exterior trim, there are plenty of bright spots. The driver gets to sit behind factory the sports steering wheel with the gold three-spoke design. And beyond that is the matching machined aluminum dash that came on these upper class T/As. You'll notice this has all the right gauges, right down to the clock/tach combo. It even still has its correct AM/FM stereo. And while the interior looks factory-correct, there's one upgrade you can absolutely feel. The factory air condition was upgraded to R134a and recently serviced, so it's blowing nice and cold. So it's a total package interior restored and upgraded to keep you feeling good over the long haul.
With 400 cubic-inches under the hood, you'll find very few people willing to call the big V8's block color "baby" blue. It looks quite authentic right down to the four-barrel carburetor and factory hood shaker that everybody remembers so well. And the reason why this is so nicely preserved and presented is because it's the original powerplant. There have also been all the right recent investments to keep it reliable, such as fuel sending unit, gas tank, alternator, plugs, wires, distributor, exhaust, and tires. This V8 makes such great muscle car sounds, and moves the car with authority. The Trans Am has a reputation for not only being quick, but also with front disc brakes and sway bars front & rear, it could handle the corners like a movie star. It was specifically chosen to be Bandit's "Trigger" because it was one of the best all-around American sportscars of its day. Plus, this one has long-haul comfort thanks to a GM TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and power steering.
This sale comes complete with plenty of documentation, including the original window sticker, warranty card, owner's manual packet, and maintenance records. Plus, you get cool extras like a scale model and a Burt Reynolds autograph on a movie transcript. Are you starting to get the full picture? Restored in all the right places, preserved where it counts, and all the right docs – this is you dream black T/A, and the first person to call today can get it in their driveway tomorrow!
