This 1929 Ford Model A roadster is the perfect platform to get a little extra hot rod treatment. It's a more modern Shay replica that has been upgraded with a V8, slick paint, and so much more. The result is something quite special at a very nice price.

Those who know Model A history, also know Shay. Ford granted the rights to use the Model A design and provided the drivetrain components to Harry Shay. And not only were these sanctioned by Ford, but also sold through their dealer network. But as interesting as this history is, Shay never built anything as cool as this. This quality replica has been given a terrific hot rod upgrade that starts with a slick application of metallic blue paint. It radiates every time you take it out in the sunlight – exactly what you want for a sunshine-friendly roadster. Plus, there's plenty of extra shine on the chromed bumpers, big bright grille, 15-inch wheels, and all that trim. And it gets all the hot rod details right, too, like the half-moon hubcaps, dual exhaust tips, and plenty of purple pinstriping, including on the trunk that announces Ol' Blue's nickname.

Beneath the great-looking black folding top with wood frame, is an equally great-looking black interior. We love how the gauge package is in the center and simple looking, just like any other Model A – and it even retains the special "Shay's A" readouts. But you also know this is no standard Model A replica. The wood w/chrome steering wheel, eight-ball shifter, auxiliary gauge package, and large SunPro tach are all there to tell you there's something nice under the hood.

While the Shay cars were a tribute to one of the best Fords ever, the engine was only a 2.2-liter four-cylinder. That would never do in a custom roadster like this. Instead, it has been upgraded to another Ford legend, the 289 V8. The golden block and golden valve covers of this powerplant look like it belongs in a first-year Mustang. In fact, with the four-barrel carburetor and the rumble of the FlowMaster dual exhaust, this one feels like a pony car, too. And this kind of power upgrade is exactly why you want a street machine built from a Shay. That's because the Shays came with a more modern chassis that included an independent front suspension and front disc brakes. Add in a three-speed automatic transmission and grip of BF Goodrich T/As, and you've got a terrific all-around cruising package.
