400 V8, 4SPD MANUAL, PWR STEER & BRAKE, PWR CONVRT TOP, FUN-IN-THE-SUN, CRUISER!

Long, powerful, and sophisticated – that's what makes this 1968 Oldsmobile 442 convertible instantly appealing. But when you see that you can have a nicely restored numbers-matching (rare) droptop with four-on-the-floor – and all for an obtainable price – then you know you're looking at a rare opportunity where the best is within reach.

Really take some time to look over this car because that metal is straight and amazing. 1968 was a brand new year for these muscle cars. No longer just a Cutlass package, the 442 was a standalone beast that celebrated its independence with one of the most intimidating designs of the 60s. Sure, it still carried much of the same overall appearance its Olds A-body siblings, but the flared fenders, rounded rear, and the silhouette-hugging trim line all looks so much better in muscle car form. Plus, when you have that dark grille with the bold 442 badging in the middle of the wide dual headlight housings, it just makes for a sinister machine. As a true Oldsmobile, this never loses its premium touches, and it's seen on the investment in a respray of a deep red that gives off a terrific clear coat shine on every sunny day. There's plenty of bright trim, and ... Please ask for the full description.

There's plenty of bright trim, and very few companies had a better chrome rear bumper integrated into the sheet metal design than Olds. But the sporty nature always shines through on this car with the correct 442 triple stripe on the front fenders, large dual exhaust tips, sport hood, and the unique Oldsmobile Rallye wheels.

Beneath the taut black electric folding roof is the restored black vinyl of the interior, so this one nicely coordinates with the exterior black sports stripe no matter is the top is up or down. The bucket seats have an interesting factory pattern that will draw attention all on its own. But once you sit down in them, your attention will instantly gravitate to what's sticking out of the floor – a factory-correct Hurst shifter. The premium factory wheel provides period-correct grip. Ahead of that, the three round pods house the instruments – including a desirable tic-toc-tach. This is the kind of droptop that's great for cruising and so they made sure you get to take all the best tunes along with the upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo. Then again, we know you're really going to take the top down on this one just so you can hear the exhaust note better.

You're looking at the numbers-matching V8 in this American muscle icon. Part of the fun of owning a '68 is getting to tell the story about how the 400 cubic-inch motor was the maximum GM would allow in its production intermediates at the time. And this one is cheating the system a bit by having go-fast upgrades like the Holley four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, and long tube headers that feed the rumbling dual exhaust. And because this is a four-speed manual car, you have complete control over the enhanced muscle powerplant and its thunderous soundtrack. But even with more muscle than stock, this 442 is still never loses its Oldsmobile level of composure thanks to good driving features such as power steering, front disc brakes, and the grip of BF Goodrich tires.

Complete with the original warranty card and owner's manual, you're looking at a droptop muscle machine that has all the right investments to be a turn-key stunner. And considering they made less than 5,150 of these nearly a half-century ago, you're looking at rarity wrapped in desirability. So at this price, you know it will be leaving us soon. Call now!
