Know the term "show and go?" Yeah, who hasn't, right? Usually, it's a tag slapped on a cat that's worthy of neither. This car, though, is a true LeMans Blue on black car that's knocked down trophies AND puts out 559 horsepower. That works out to about one part show to three parts go, and we like the ratio!
The '69 Camaro is one of the best looking cars of all time, and the time spent making this one right does GM's work proud. The panels are bright and shiny, and as straight as they are well aligned. SS trim is everywhere from the blacked-out grille to the dual spoilers. An SS hood sports the too cool simulated vents while the quarters wear chrome mock brake cooling vents. "Hockey stick" stripes in white are a welcome change to the three million hood striped cars. All of the glass is new, and the trim and chrome is excellent. Rocker trim, wheel well trim, the blacked out tail panel...it's all here. Someone went to a lot of trouble to get just the right stock look, and you'll love it.
Inside, you're ready for curves and quarter-mile runs sitting in the Procar buckets. They recline, they have nice side bolsters, and they're way better padded than stock seats. The "greatest hits of 1969" theme continues with the interior equipment: A big tach in the dash, rosewood accents, console gauges and more in an original black interior. Yep...someone really ordered the right colors on this car! New parts are everywhere from the dash pad to the steering wheel to the door panels to the carpet. If you can touch it, it was installed fewer than 1000 miles ago. A Ken Harrison cassette deck fits in the stock hole, pumping out tunes loud enough to compete with the exhaust. New chrome parts, new seals and more make your ride all that more enjoyable.
Under the hood is a total monster masquerading as a 396. You'd walk by it twice and never give it a second look, and that, friend, is how match races are won. A repop air cleaner holds a plain white paper filter and stickers proclaiming an L78 build. There's a Holley carb planted on a low-rise single plane intake. Air and fuel then rush through fully ported aluminum heads (a full build sheet, pictures and receipts come with the car) into the prepped cylinders. A roller cam dances the valves open, an MSD ignition lights the charge, and fumes fly out through ceramic-coated headers. Stock-appearing valve covers, now in aluminum, continue the OEM look. The front suspension is totally fresh, with aftermarket upper control arms, drop spindles, cross-drilled disc brakes, a fat sway bar and fresh coil springs. Subframe connectors keep the engine's twist pointed at the pavement and not the door jambs, while a new clutch and M21 four-speed send power to the rebuilt axle. Exhaust notes are nothing short of wicked with the long tube headers, an X-pipe and Flowmaster Super 44's. The ride is controlled and tight thanks to the 17-inch American Racing Torque Thrust II's wearing 245's up front and fat 275's out back.
We could go on for hours about this car, but you'd be better off checking it out for yourself. Do so quickly, though, as we know it won't last!
