For those of you who love Mustangs (who doesn't?), it's going to be hard not to fall in love with this bright yellow 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1. It takes one of the most attractive Mustangs of all time and adds just a few upgrades touches to give it a classic look with just a hint of modern performance underneath.
At this price, this Mustang represents a screaming bargain. The bright yellow paint is quite similar to the original Grabber Yellow, albeit nothing coming out of Ford factories in 1970 looked this good. Ford's fastback (or "Sportsroof") Mach 1 looks fast just sitting still and made the perfect foundation for their most popular performance model. Fit and finish on this high-impact car are quite good, with nice panel gaps, good alignment, and a shine that belies the fact that the paint job is now 15 years old. All the correct Mach 1 details are there, from the hood scoop to the ribbed rocker panel moldings to the louvered rear window and rear wing, both of which were optional on the Mach 1. Correct black stripes and '351' callouts on the hood help with the aggressive look and it appears that even the chrome bumpers are recent, giving this Mustang a very crisp, clean appearance. Sure, there are a few signs of use, but this is still one of the best-looking Mustangs ever built.
The black bucket seat interior is correct for this particular car and is perhaps the only interior that can live up to the exterior's standards. It appears that the seat covers, door panels, and dash pad are original, and that should tell you a lot about the care this Mustang has received over the years. Newer carpets make it feel fresh inside, and while most of it's just the way Ford did it, a few upgrades make for a more entertaining driving experience: a fat wood-rimmed steering wheel, a pair of auxiliary gauges on the console, and an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit with big speakers in the back. This car came from the factory with air conditioning, so it's likely that it spent its life someplace warm and dry, and with a woodgrained center console and C4 3-speed automatic transmission, it lives up to its billing as a grand tourer. Heavy-duty floor mats protect those carpets and the trunk is fully upholstered using correct mats, as well as a matching cover for the spare tire.
This car is also correctly outfitted with an M-code 351 cubic inch "Cleveland" V8, which looks like it's had a lot of money spent on it recently. Rest assured, this torquey small block delivers performance that matches its red-hot looks. Finned valve covers are the most visible deviation from stock, but underneath you'll find an Edelbrock intake manifold, Holley carburetor, and an MSD ignition system, as well as a big aluminum radiator with electric fan. By 1970, power steering and power front disc brakes were far more common, making this car quite easy to drive, and with 3.00 gears out back, it's probably one of the best highway cruisers we've got. Ceramic-coated long-tube headers feed a new Flowmaster exhaust system, so it has that traditional Ford small block cackle, and you can see in the photos that the underside of this car has nothing to hide. Magnum 500 wheels are always the right choice, with these carrying relatively recent BFGoodrich rubber.
