If a late-model Mustang can be considered a sleeper, this sinister black 2005 Ford Mustang GT is it. On the face, it's just a really nice black Mustang with some flashy wheels, but underneath there's a seriously fast supercharged 4.6 liter V8 cranking out a dyno-verified 403 horsepower.
The list of equipment that went into the build is more than two pages long, so I'll just tell you about the cosmetics briefly before we get to the good stuff. The fact that this car has only 17,684 miles on the clock should tell you about how nice it is, and given that the intention was to build a show-stopper from the very beginning, I doubt it's even seen a major bit of rain. A few cosmetic upgrades help it stand apart, including the billet grilles, custom hood, and scoops just behind the doors, and deck lid spoiler, but if you saw this Mustang prowling through traffic, you probably wouldn't give it a second look, which is entirely the point. Red hash marks on the fenders add a little flash that we like a great deal, tying the exterior and interior together rather neatly. Take the time to look it over, however, and the quality of the work becomes apparent, showing a Mustang that looks just a bit more muscular than its run-of-the-mill siblings. And, of course, once you hear its cackling exhaust note, you'll realize that this game was over before it even started.
The interior is still fully functional, with only a few upgrades. Of course, the factory stuff is pretty good, with supportive red and black leather buckets, an awesome retro-inspired instrument panel, and options like A/C, power windows and locks, and a powerful Shaker stereo system with a subwoofer in the trunk. A few chrome dress-up pieces like the HVAC knobs and parking brake handle help to break up all the black, and custom gauges for boost and O2 sensor readings are neatly situated in the center vent openings. There's almost no wear on the seating surfaces, again indicative of a car that has been well-maintained and always loved. Beyond that, the workmanship is impressive and the outside-the-box thinking makes this car as functional as it is fast.
OK, now about that horsepower. The engine is a pro-built 4.6 liter V8, complete with a Vortech V2 supercharger and alcohol injection to keep everything happy on pump gas. Virtually every component under the hood was upgraded for show purposes, from the chrome strut tower brace to the custom air brushed intake manifold to the supercharger itself, which is beautifully polished. It was all professionally built with the best equipment, and we have receipts for the build to back up the horsepower claims. The suspension has been upgraded with bigger sway bars, Ford Performance springs and shocks, and a rumbling stainless steel exhaust system. The 5-speed automatic transmission doesn't seem to mind the power churning through it, and it's still the best way to run a Vortech blower because it's never off-boost with the gear changes happening so seamlessly. 3.73 gears make it punchy but the overdrive makes it easy to drive, and those Shelby-style 18-inch chrome wheels wear staggered 255/45/18 front and 285/40/18 rear BFGoodrich radials.
