DESIRABLE CHROME-BUMPER MG, STRONG 1275 CC FLAT 4, 4-SPEED, RUNS/DRIVES GREAT!!!
They weren't kidding, were they? Good things really do come in small packages... This diminutive two-seater weighs in at just over 1600 lbs, but the MG Midget looms as a giant in the world of classic automobiles. In fact, few imports have cultivated a more loyal following than this venerable British-built sports car. Its immense popularity transcends all socio-economic boundaries. Whether you're a celebrity or just a Regular Joe, anyone can squeeze out a ton of fun out of this little roadster.
This visually compelling 1970 MG Midget MkIII Convertible is a fun little ride with a ton of curb appeal. It's a throwback to the "chrome bumper" days, making it one of the more collectible Midgets. Red is the perfect color for any convertible, particularly one that boasts the stylish lines of this little roadster. It's an above average driver quality finish, and its lustrous shine bears solid evidence that this car has been well-maintained over the past 40-plus years. The fact that this is an MkIII model means you get the full chrome bumper treatment front and rear. It sets the early Midgets apart from later cars and makes it worth a little extra investment. And you'll be pleased to see that those bumpers and all of the other chrome trim still shine exceptionally well. The black convertible top has no rips or tears, and-although manual-operates flawlessly. And you'll experience none of the sagging and dragging of doors that sometimes goes along with owning a vintage convertible. Both of these doors open and close with authority. And to top it all off, optional 13" wire wheels add a nostalgic look that serves as a reminder that this is indeed a classic in every sense of the word.
For a car named Midget, this little compact is quite the roomy roadster, once you're sitting inside. A decent amount of legroom and individual bucket seats are paramount to this interior's overall comfort. Quite nice indeed! The black vinyl upholstery is in extremely good condition and looks great against the red exterior. The dash pad is often a source of concern on these cars; many are brittle and all cracked up, but that certainly isn't the case with this car. This dash is in really nice shape and shows hardly any weathering at all. The original Smiths gauges are all functioning and the face of each one is crystal clear. An AM-FM radio with a cassette player will belt out your favorite tunes as you're basking in that incomparable top-down driving experience.
Power for this miniature masterpiece is derived from a smooth-running stock 1275cc four cylinder engine that appears to be completely original. Despite its small displacement, this little motor sounds bigger than it is and acts like it too! It actually makes some pretty decent pop for its size. It easily squeezes out 65 HP which, when coupled with the fully-synchronized four-speed manual transmission, is more than ample motivation to carry the lightweight Midget down the road at a pretty good clip. Put the car on a lift and you'll see an undercarriage that is clean and rock-solid. The steering feels nice and snug, and the brakes have a good firm pedal as they bring the car safely to a stop. The suspension seems to have endured the test of time, as this little gem handles extremely well while providing a more comfortable ride than you'd ever expect from a compact car.
If you've ever yearned to own the quintessential British sports car, this is your chance. These chrome-bumper MG's are rising in value each day, so don't let this one slip away. Cal today!
