Description

SWEET SOUTHERN LWB GMC, STRONG 351 V6, 4-SPEED, DUALS, WIDE-WHITES, DRIVES GREAT

We have quite a few awesome early Chevy pickups in our inventory, but this 1966 GMC is a rarity. With a pretty rare V6 engine, a 4-speed gearbox, comfortable interior, and a period perfect look, it's the pickup for the guy who wants to stand out from the crowd.

We're quite fond of the bright aqua paint job. There's nothing to hide, as this has always been a southern truck, and you just can't disguise inferior workmanship when you make a truck that looks like this. It can be sporty or utilitarian, and on this truck, it is perfectly vintage as well. It's not perfect, but we like the vintage vibe it gives off and a few bumps and bruises are OK on a vintage truck like this. Accented by a shiny stripe of trim running down its flanks, this is exactly the kind of truck you've admired at shows, mostly because it's not like all the others. The bed shows no signs of heavy use, although the planks are weathered and there's spray-in bedliner material on everything that isn't wood, and we do like the look. It's interesting but still functional, unlike all those other trucks with shiny fresh dance floors in back. Bright chrome bumpers, heavy duty tailgate hardware, and that simple GMC grille make this a truck whose subtlety and class will win you over.

The interior has been restored and largely sticks to the factory recipe with a black vinyl bench seat, simple door panels, and one of the most attractive truck dashboards ever designed. A heavy-duty rubber mat, GMC-logo floor mats, bright tan paint on the dash and steering wheel, and an array of factory gauges make this truck easy to love. Of course, there's also a set of auxiliary dials underneath, and they're a lot more accurate than the originals and are therefore better for keeping an eye on the big V6 up front. The giant two spoke steering wheel is in great condition with only a few small surface cracks that are probably in the finish, not the plastic, and you really feel as though you're driving something substantial when you grab that helm. And yes, that's a 4-speed shifter on the floor, which changes the truck's personality in a big way.

The engine is a unique 351 cubic inch V6 that's been detailed to look right under the hood. Wearing traditional orange paint, a set of black GMC-logo valve covers, and a 2-barrel carburetor, it was part of a long-running series of engines that delivered good performance in GMC trucks. It starts easily and feels torquey at any speed, as you'd expect, and it's relatively smooth even with six big pistons spinning inside. A big radiator up front keeps it cool under just about any conditions and the satin black firewall and inner fenders make a great background. It is incredibly clean underneath, too, with a super straight frame, solid floors, and all the original equipment intact. The aforementioned 4-speed manual transmission feeds a sturdy 12-bolt rear end hanging on heavy-duty leaf springs, so you can still put it to work if you want to. And the dual exhaust definitely gives it a unique sound. Bright chrome hubcaps sparkle against those big 8.20-15 Firestone wide whites.

This unusual, handsome, and surprisingly affordable pickup is as practical as it is fun. It's also every bit as nice as it looks in photos and comes with an interesting powerplant that will always be part of an interesting story. Call today!
