VERY SLICK FASTBACK! 289V8, 4 SPD MAN, FACTORY COLORS, COLD A/C, PS/B W/ FRT DSC

Early Mustangs like this 1966 GT fastback remain incredibly sought-after, often pulling larger prices than their drop-top siblings. Is it the fantastic look? The practicality? The relative rarity? Whatever the reason that makes so popular, there are a lot of things to like about this beautifully restored fastback.

This isn't a car for the purist looking for a stock, survivor-type pony. What this car offers instead is high-performance that doesn't go too far and instead offers the traditional look that people have admired from day one. The Vintage Burgundy Metallic paint is this car's original shade, is extremely sophisticated and attractive and gives the GT an intense look that suits its personality just fine. Finish quality is great all around, making this a car you'll look forward to driving and won't mind pulling into a favorite cruise night or car show. There's no 100% way to say whether it's a real GT in these years, but it's certainly got all the right indicators (original floor pans structured for dual exhaust is a big indicator), from the fog lamps up front, to the badges and black rocker stripes on the sides, to the twin trumpets through the rear valence, it totally nails the ... There's no 100% way to say whether it's a real GT in these years, but it's certainly got all the right indicators (original floor pans structured for dual exhaust is a big indicator), from the fog lamps up front, to the badges and black rocker stripes on the sides, to the twin trumpets through the rear valence, it totally nails the look, and provides enough preponderance of evidence to suggest as strongly as possible, that this is the real-deal. And yes, we think this is indeed the real deal, as we go down the list of GT perquisites, this Stang gets everything right. Bright chrome bumpers, those all-important '289' badges, and correct polished trim all give it a detailed look that is extremely attractive.

The attractive black Pony interior was recently restored and looks spectacular. The seat covers, door panels, and carpets were all replaced and show well, and the center console that houses the 4-speed manual is a fantastic feature. The vinyl-wrapped aftermarket steering wheel is slick and complements the white cue ball knob on the Hurst shifter, which practically taunts the driver to slam through all four gears. The gauges are quite possibly original (and further evidence of a real GT) and in good order, with an original-style Rally-Pac on the steering column. That's a retro-style AM/FM radio in the dash that also houses the CD changer stowed away in the trunk, so you know the guy doing the work had his priorities straight: horsepower and loud tunes are paramount. We also love the practicality of the fastback, with a fold-down rear seat that expands trunk space exponentially. And speaking of the trunk it's nicely finished with black carpeting and a factory-sized spare tire with a vinyl cover that would've likely been original spec.

No early Mustang feels right with anything but a small block under the hood, and this one is packing a strong-running 289 V8, exactly what an A-code Mustang calls for. Quick to rev yet surprisingly torquey, it makes this fastback feel very fast without working too hard. Ford Blue engine paint, chrome valve covers, and fresh plug wires make for an attractive engine bay that still captures the 1960s. An open-element air cleaner wears a reproduction decal that looks absolutely correct. The engine is enhanced with help from an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock Performer intake, and sparks to life easily thanks to a Pertronix ignition and Flame Thrower coil. Gears selection is easy in the 4-speed manual and feed a set of 3.00 gears on a Ford 9-inch rear end, meaning that long-distance cruises on the highway are certainly welcomed. A custom Flowmaster dual exhaust system with an H-pipe set-up sounds spectacular with that familiar, vintage 5.0 performance sound. 17-inch Legendary alloy wheels are fitted with 225/45/17 BFGoodrich performance radials yet it still nails the 1960s performance look.

Fastback Mustangs never stick around for very long, and if you want one of the best we've seen that you can still drive and show, this is an excellent choice. Call today!
