We see a lot of pretty cool pickups, but this 1954 Chevy 3100 5 Window Restomod might be the slickest we've featured in years. And it's more than just pretty, because there's an LS powerplant underneath, a high-end paint job, a plush custom interior, and a well-designed chassis that's built for the road. Take a closer look, this is one impressive truck.

This truck has already earned its share of kudos and shows just 3,732 miles on the build, with most of those probably coming while it was driving on and off the trailer and on the way to a cruise in. This beautiful hauler started as a standard 5-window Chevy 3100 pickup and was stripped bare and fully rebuilt using old-fashioned hot-rodding tricks and exceptional craftsmanship by the pros at Fort Hood Paint and Body. Most notable is, of course, the paint job, which is sinister Black Cherry with expertly applied ghost flames on the hood and a blindingly high polish to make this blue-collar pickup look at home on Rodeo Drive. A few liberties have been taken to slick-up the exterior, from the electric front-tilting louvered hood, to the billet bumpers fore and aft, but they kept the trademark grille that always brings the crowds in, and sharp-eyed viewers will spot all the trim on this truck is in excellent condition. At the same time, the bed got a full makeover that includes bright diamond plate on every panel, a relocated custom gas tank, and a fabric tonneau cover that looks suitably sophisticated on this restomod. The overall workmanship is quite impressive, with a great gloss and smooth finish everywhere you look, and you'll be proud to show it off.

Two-tone maroon-and-tan buckets are a nice fit in the 3100 cab and anchor an interior that is just as subtle and expertly done as the bodywork. Plush maroon carpets flow with the custom-made, two-tone door panels that match the seats, custom console, and headliner perfectly. Upgrades include a custom billet steering wheel that sits atop a tilt column, an A/C panel discreetly stashed under the center of the dash, a custom console that splits the buckets and houses a modern head unit, and a dash-mounted screen for the back-up camera, all of which bring this vintage pickup into the 21st century. The original dash was painted to match the body and it really brightens up the cab, particularly up against the two-tone upholstery. Digital white-face gauges with neat old-school fonts really work well in the factory holes and because they're plentiful all-in-one units, there was no need to clutter the dash with eye-sore auxiliary units. Entertainment comes from an Alpine AM/FM/AUX/Satellite stereo system that sounds fantastic, even with that LS running full-bore.

For powering your rod, it's pretty hard to beat a late-model LS-based V8, and this one in particular is a built 5.3L LM7 V8. The dependable and powerful powerplant was liberated from a 2004-model Chevrolet, and thanks to a professional installation, the swap looks like it absolutely belongs in the engine bay. Familiar Vortec coil covers have been painted to match the body and dress up the exposed engine bay, and because the potent V8 is such a neat fit in the pickup's engine bay, service access is very good. It almost looks OEM. The front subframe is GM-based and brings power steering and power front disc brakes with it, the rear is a 4-link with coilovers, and a custom engine and transmission harness was used to get the LM7 and 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission talking to each other properly. Long-tube headers feed a custom dual exhaust system that offers chambered mufflers for a throaty sound that never gets annoying, and stays tucked up tightly under the bodywork, exiting under the running boards and before the rear fenders. A Ford 9" rear end with 28-spline axles handles the torque and the overdrive means this truck is a superlative highway cruiser and thanks to the chassis upgrades, it rides rather well for a pickup. Old school chrome moon wheels are a great choice on a rod like this and carry 205/65/15 front and 235/75/20 rear Michelin rubber that fills the fenders perfectly.
