The GTO has a terrific story of being snuck out the back door at Pontiac where it violated GM rules about a large motor in lighter/smaller intermediate bodies. These outlaw speed machines proved to be popular but far from mainstream sales. And if you're a Pontiac fan, you know this one is even scarcer. The pillared coupes are almost as rare as the convertible version. Plus, while those who knew they were getting a powerful car likely ordered it in red or black, this factory-correct Pinehurst Green is seldom-seen but quite striking. It was resprayed later in life so that the metallic element continues to give this one a radiant style. Clean body lines, bright chrome bumpers, and doors that line up nicely make this full pack desirable for more than just the big motor. Of course, we also still love the hood scoop trim, GTO badging, bright dual exhaust tips, spinner wheel covers, and redline tires that make this the granddaddy of muscle cars.

The parchment interior is part of the factory-correct color combo, and the light color looks great against the light green exterior paint. It looks quite good with crisp details on the door panels and seats. Plus, high traffic areas like the carpet, armrests, and steering wheels are done in black so that you can enjoy this without worry. And true classic car fans are going to enjoy things like the factory air conditioning control that are still in place. The compressor and other components were removed for the sake of power because this was also made to be a driver's car. That means front bucket seats, a center console in-between, a floor shifter, and sporty round gauges in a machine-turned dash panel.

Pontiac's 389 cubic-inch V8 in the engine bay is what started the muscle car revolution. So it's great to have a year-correct block in this GTO. It's properly dressed in the Pontiac light blue block and shiny valve covers. And when you lift the large air grabber, you can see the upgrade to a triple-deuce carburetor setup that's currently on this coupe. All three carbs have been rebuilt and a new pertronix ignition kit added just in February of 2023 And the newer dual exhaust gives a growl that'll make people think there's a tiger under the hood. The Powerglide transmission is nice for handling power and easy cruising. Out on the road, this one has power steering, power brakes, and a modern tread behind the classic redline tire style for all-around good driving.
