TRACK READY, BUILT 351C V8, 4 SPD TOPLOADER, 4 WHL DISCS, COILOVER REAR, 9" FORD
This 1968 Ford Mustang was specially built to do only one thing – go fast! You can tell it was intended for the track, but it's legal enough for you to hanging a license plate on it. So now everyone will hide from you on the street, the strip, or the track.
When you buy a racecar paint is never a pressing issue. The difference here is this also is a coupe you can drive to and from the track. Because of that, the red has the kind of luster that you might find of someone's cherished factory '68. There is brightwork on this car, but its reserved for purposeful elements like the mesh grille, and keeping the hood and trunk pinned down. The flat black hood is for racing, but it also coordinates nicely with the painted rear panel and Bassett racing wheels. There's plenty of Shelby-inspired performance touches, including the dual ducts on each side, hood scoop, and front bumper with racing headlights mounted in the center cutout. There's even a nice Boss-style stripe running down the side. Starting to get the picture on this one? Someone invested time and money to make sure this Mustang was more than just the sum of its racing decals.
It will be hard to pretend this is anything but a fun competition machine once you look inside. This has been thoroughly built to keep your focus on the road ahead. That means easy to read gauges for all the essential information, especially the big speedometer and even large tachometer. You know this is a purpose-built machine when the Hurst shifter is your brightest piece of chrome. All your important functions are on easy toggle switches, including the starter. Heck, even the padded wheel is removable just like a NASCAR racer. In another nod to a more passenger-friendly car, this coupe has its sport racing seats covered in a nice cloth that also matches the door panels. Of course this is far from a coddling cruiser, and the full roll cage and five-point seatbelts will certainly remind you of that.
The 351 Cleveland V8 is fully built performance motor with only about 5,000 miles on it. This one has been rated at 320 hp at the rear wheel, but that has likely increased with a new exhaust installed and the additional tuning that had taken place since it was last dynoed. Its mated to a four-speed toploader transmission that has tall gears so you can hammer through turns without shifting out of first. Power goes through a Ford 9-inch rear end with Richmond 3.50 gears. There is better weight distribution over the rear wheels with the racing fuel cell and battery mounted in the trunk. This all stays planted to the blacktop thanks to a coilover rear suspension and Mickey Thompson performance tires at all four corners.
This is the ultimate intimidator for the street, and a real contender on the track. We've got maintenance receipts to show you how awesome this coupe is, but really, all you need to do is hear the roar of side exit exhaust to convince you that this is the meanest car for the money.
