255CI FLATHEAD V8, THREE-SPEED MANUAL, ORIGINAL COLORS, COOL ORIGINAL CAR!

Celebrating the end of an era, this 1953 Mercury Custom is a truly distinct cruising classic with a great flathead V8 under the hood. And the value price is the cherry on top of this Sunday driver.

Mercurys just seem to always get noticed on the classic car scene. As the premium end of Ford's lineup, these love to look brighter and more intricate than the mainstream. So it's great that they took the time to make a later investment in the brightwork. The bumpers shine like true chrome kings, and the designers did a great job of integrating them. That's why the front helps from the grille, and in the rear, it's an almost seamless integration into the hint of tailfin. That's true classic style. It all looks distinct against the factory-correct Sherwood Green. This has been resprayed later in life to have a nice metallic glow, but it has aged correctly to not look too flashy. It just feels like a dignified premium cruiser. That's also because it has the right with full-length sweeping side trim, whitewall tires, fender skirts, factory hubcaps, and the bright hood ornament integrated into the hood design.

The sea of green continues inside. It has an intricate style with the deep green cloth and a nice green/gray tweed mix that's intertwined on the seats and doors. This was a later restoration that had an eye for originality. You see it everywhere from the trim on the doors to the AM radio that's still there for display. And the heater controls look like they were borrowed from a contemporary jet fighter. So it really feels like true classic motoring every time you grab the thin/grippy steering wheel.

The flathead V8 is a legend all on its own, and the 255 cubic-inch displacement was a larger size for premium Mercury cars that was not shared with Ford cars. Plus, 1953 is a moment of pride for V8 fans, because this would be the final year for these legendary flathead motors. This one remains quite stock and correct from the air grabber to the generator. And the column-shifted three-speed manual transmission gives you proper control over the motor with a terrific vintage feel.

This car comes from a family collection of Mercurys, and you can see the difference it makes in a carefully correct presentation of this classic. Don't miss this deal, call today!
