Description

VERY SHARP PAINT! STRONG 454 BIG BLOCK! AUTO, AC, PS/B W/ FRT DISC, CLEAN IN/OUT

First impressions tell you a lot, and I'm betting you just said to yourself, "Wow, nice car!" when you saw this slick 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS tribute. Wearing gorgeous Ascot Blue paint and packing a gnarly 454 inch big block, it's every bit as cool in person as it appears in photos. Let me convince you...

First, that Ascot Blue paint is the car's original color (code 24) and looks simply awesome on the slick Chevelle bodywork. Broken up by black SS stripes that were painted on and buried under the clear, this Chevelle totally nails the high-performance look. It's lighter than the usual Astro Blue but the soft hue certainly works on a car that's just brutal in everything it does. Bodywork is quite good, with a lot of time invested in getting the panels flat and straight before any of that elegant paint went on. With a cowl-induction hood, blacked-out SS grille, and arguably the best-looking front end of any Chevelle ever built, the car looks fast just sitting still. It shows some signs of age and use, but nothing major and someone polished the stainless and installed the right SS emblems so it looks right. Tinted windows add a bit of attitude, making this a car you can drive with pride.

The black interior is fairly recent and quite nicely done. New seat covers were installed on the factory buckets, plus new carpets, headliner, and package shelf were fitted, replicating the originals exactly and continuing the SS theme. The door panels are original and showing some age, but no need to chase perfection here. A center console sports a slick horseshoe shifter that's linked to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, and a factory 2-spoke steering wheel frames the original Malibu gauges with a pair of auxiliary dials down on the console. This car also features factory A/C (now with upgraded modern hardware behind the scenes) and an upgraded Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo tucked into the dash. The tidy trunk offers correct spatter paint, a correct mat, and a full-sized spare.

You want muscle? This car delivers in a big way with a 454 cubic inch V8 that was built for combat. Thanks to a Holley high-rise aluminum intake and 4-barrel carb, electronic ignition, and careful tuning, it starts instantly and idles with that rumble that a good-sized camshaft lives inside. The big block was built for the Chevelle's engine bay and it's nicely dressed, including a set of chrome valve covers, Chevy Orange paint, and an open-element air cleaner with a reproduction decal. A big aluminum radiator with a major mechanical fan keeps it cool and with all the upgrades, it pulls like a freight train and offers almost endless reserves of torque. Factory manifolds dump into a Flowmaster exhaust system, so it sounds potent without being rude, and like I said, that underbody is clean if not detailed for show. A 12-bolt full of reasonable gears means this is an effortless highway cruiser and the big block doesn't need a lot of gear to get rolling, making it surprisingly docile but incredibly potent. Trick 17-inch wheels replicate a set of vintage Magnums and carry staggered 235/40/17 front and 275/40/17 rear performance radials.

Nicely built and intended to take no prisoners, this is one of those cars that brings the thunder and cloaks it in a very handsome shell. Call today!
