This 1980 Mercury Cougar XR7 is a unique machine. After all, this is part of a rare generation that was only in production for a few years, and you're looking at an example that has only averaged about 1,600 miles annually. So dig into the details on a coupe of distinction.
This is the right size kind of car for many of us. It has the imposing kind of front end that looks like it wasn't to own the road, but the wheelbase is shorter than its predecessors so that tighter parking lots don't make you nervous. The dark blue paint is factory correct. It has been given a respray where it has the right look of vintage aged-in, but also there's a nice metallic element to look good in the sunshine. The tan vinyl half roof is pure classic premium, and the matching rub strip is all part of this thoughtful look. Plus, there's full pinstriping that outlines the straight lines and flared fender profile. The XR7 package also makes us think of sporty style, and so even the upgraded hood scoop trim and upgraded 15-inch wheels feel appropriate here.
The factory-correct medium blue interior harmonizes with the dark blue of the exterior to deliver a good-looking total package. Comfy cloth inserts in ... Please ask for the full description.

The factory-correct medium blue interior harmonizes with the dark blue of the exterior to deliver a good-looking total package. Comfy cloth inserts in the seats, a fold-down front armrest, jewel-like gauges, and plenty of wood-like trim give you the proper luxury style. There are some signs of enjoyment, but the low mileage means it's far less than many other cars that have passed the 40-year benchmark. The center stack shows off the classic Ford AM/FM radio and provisions for factory air conditioning (it will need servicing to fully blow from the vents again.) And there's even an auxiliary gauge trio so you can keep a better eye on what's happening under the hood.
The engine bay has a very stock-style presentation. This is Ford's 4.2-liter V8. It's an interesting motor, because just like this gen Cougar, it was only in production for a few years. So it makes for a noteworthy story. Plus, it's closely related to the 302 V8, and so there's a little extra tune from the dual exhaust. So if you were looking for a sleeker-style vehicle to do some Mustang-level upgrades, this one has the potential. It even rides on the same strong Fox platform. But what you're really going to like this one for is that it's a great easy cruiser. A supple suspension, sway bars front & rear, power steering, power brakes, front discs, and an automatic transmission give this the proper Mercury feel going down the road.
