FIRST YEAR 1964 1/2 CONVERTIBLE, GREAT COLOR COMBO, 260CI V8, MANUAL TRANS!

We're all on the lookout for a 1964.5 Ford Mustang convertible, but this is a standout amongst those rare few. With its tantalizingly low serial number, great color combo, and correct-style 260ci V8, this is quite a distinctive icon that's up for grabs.

Ford had a huge hit on its hands with the first-generation Mustang. It was an instant icon, and so when looking for the ultimate classic, you want the earliest example you can get that has both originality and rarity. That's what makes this one so appealing. You'll see the trim tag in the pictures that show a May 1964 production date and a serial number that's one of the lowest you're going to find for a while. Caspian Blue is a great paint to have on this car. It was only available in the initial years of the Mustang, and so it just seems right to have it on a true early pony car. It was given a respray later in life. So now you have the ideal mix of a car that is driver quality but still gives you a distinct clearcoat shine that is right for a sunshine-friendly convertible. The chrome bumpers and trim are clean and complete for the right vintage presentation. This car keeps its appearance quite correct, right down to the wheel ... Please ask for the full description.

This car keeps its appearance quite correct, right down to the wheel covers, and it's easy to understand why the look wants to remain stock. With only around 28,830 convertibles produced during the short 1964.5 run, it's one of the rarest versions of the first-gen Mustang.

If you like the way the white roof looks against the exterior, then with the flip of a switch, you'll love taking down the power top and showing off the interior. Inside, there's white on the seats, door panels, steering wheel, convertible boot cover, and dash. And blue returns on the carpeting, seatbelts, and dash pad. It makes for a thoughtfully coordinated full package, and the trim tag tells us this car was born this way. You'll also appreciate the details, right down to the working AM radio and courtesy lights. And because a Mustang is a driver's classic, you'll love the feel of the thin/grippy steering wheel in your left hand, and your right one will feel right at home on the floor shifter.

When you open the hood, the bright blue air grabber and matching valve covers grab your attention, but it's what's beneath them that's really special. This is an F-code Mustang, which means it came from the factory with a 260 cubic-inch V8. Once the 1964.5 production switched over to 1965, this option was gone. The same goes for the generator. After all, it could easily be switched to an alternator, but it has been kept in this one all these years because Mustang people know to look for this special short-run component. The V8 fires up eagerly like a classic that loves to go for a drive. This drop-top likes you to feel the road, and it has that right sporty feeling with newer shocks and the control of the three-speed manual transmission.

This is a 1964.5 drop-top that has been treated with the right care for decades. It is believed to be a three-owner car, including a long-term Arizona resident under the second owner. The current owner has had it since 2008, and he has continued the tradition of garage-kept care and the proper fuel. It all means you get a very significant Mustang that has the kind of well-respected history that makes a special car truly unique. The sale even comes complete with the owner's manual and multiple research books. If you're a true collector, you know this pony car is the unicorn you've been waiting for. Call today!!!
