GREAT DRIVER, 455 ROCKET MOTOR, NEW TOP, CARPET, BADGED 442 AND W-30!!!

This 1972 Oldsmobile 442 convertible is proof that Oldsmobile was not giving up on the muscle car era. With a 455 cubic inch V8 under the hood, a shape that is still one of the most attractive muscle cars of all time, and a top that goes down, this car represents a great way to own a legend without the giant price tag.

Finished in correct Nordic Blue, this built 442 is every bit the upscale cruiser that GM envisioned when it launched the nameplate in the mid-60s. It was nicely restored several years ago and still looks good, with straight sheetmetal, great panel gaps, and the proper black stripes that frame the wheel wells. Two-stage urethane guarantees a brilliant shine, but someone took the extra time to do some color sanding and buffing on this 442's body, and the result is a deep shine almost completely devoid ripples or waves. Reproduction 442 and W-30 badges warn potential predators away from this big block powered ragtop, and the chrome is brilliant all around. The '72 Cutlasses were dressed up with black inserts in the headlight buckets and fine mesh grilles up front, and six-element taillight lenses in back.

The black bench with individual backrests was standard in the ... Please ask for the full description.

The black bench with individual backrests was standard in the Cutlass convertible, and the interior has been fully restored. The seatcovers are exact reproductions of the originals, and show a lot more detail than the usual repro stuff, and new carpets feature the correct weave. As an upscale model, the 442 got lots of wood on the dash and door panels, and the gauges feature brushed stainless faces that still look good 40 years later. A/C is a nice addition, even in an open convertible, and this Olds also offers an AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit in place of the original AM radio. Overhead, a power convertible top stows easily under a matching black boot.

The engine is Oldsmobile's torque monster L75 455 cubic inch V8, which in 1972 grunted out a very impressive 300 horsepower and 410 pounds of torque with the W-30 option package. The engine runs well, pulling the midsized convertible around with authority. The engine bay is tidy, with an OEM look brightened by a chrome valve covers and an air cleaner advertising Oldsmobile's Rocket V8. Underneath, there's a built 3-speed automatic with a 2800 RPM stall converter and a set of 3.80 gears out back, so acceleration is explosive to say the least. The 442 also received the FE2 suspension which included heavy-duty springs and shocks, front and rear sway bars, and boxed lower rear control arms, not to mention those beautiful 14x7 Rally wheels.

The 442 is legendary, and though the musclecar era was winding down, this very nice driver convertible proves that it was far from over. Fast, fun, and affordable, call now because this Olds wont last long!
