It takes a lot of confidence to call your product "the ultimate driving machine", but BMW has long since proven that they can back it up. When this M3 hit American shores in 1995, it upped the ante over the already esteemed 3-series by featuring substantially increased power over its more common 328 counterpart and an aggressive suspension that prompted Car & Driver to find it to be one of the best handling cars of its era, by virtue of a series of their own independent tests. This VERY well looked after 1995 BMW M3 is your chance to own a piece of German automotive history – a piece that comes with unusually low miles, a rare automatic transmission and shows the obvious benefits of near dealership-only care during its lifetime.

The Cosmos-black metallic exterior of this M3 provides first evidence that it has resided comfortably in a garage while not in use. Step up and you'll find a nice, uniform shine staring back at you from deep within the finish. It does have some very minor touch ups just from being driven, so it's not perfect, but it's still - very nice. The body trim on all sides remains nice and unscuffed - still sitting straight and flush, with the "M3" lettering on the sides still clearly visible. The badges on both hood and trunk bearing the signature BMW propeller are intact and unblemished. BMW knew that there was a lot of anticipation for this car and making an immediate impact here in the US would be important. The low, slightly inclined stance looks amply aggressive and you can just picture how this car can carve corners.

Spending down-time in a garage does yield plenty of benefits for a car's exterior, but luckily this BMW has received obvious care that's served to preserve its interior as well. The bolsters on the front, black bucket seats stand tall and promise to offer plenty of continued support, and the back seats appear hardly used – it's not likely that this driving machine has spent much of its time as a carpooler. The black dashboard remains straight, showing no warpage nor any cracking, and the wood paneling accenting the center consoles, glove box and even the shift knobs still has its original rich gloss. Going from form to function, the features on this BMW all WORK. The sunroof opens and closes without a hitch, its AM/FM/CD stereo projects cleanly and without a rattle from the speakers, the A/C system blows both cold and very strong, the power seats adjust uninterrupted and the electric windows roll up and down quickly and smoothly. Despite having first seen American shores some 22 years ago, this car also benefits from a couple of decidedly modern features, including front and side airbags for both driver and passenger.

Of course, arriving with the label "ultimate driving machine" does have a tendency to raise expectations when behind the wheel, and this M3 does not disappoint. The 3.0 inline 6 propels the car forward very convincingly. Interestingly, when this model was first tested in acceleration, nearly every result showed it to be markedly faster - by up to a half-second than the factory had claimed, pretty much the inverse of what we normally see with a new release. Connected to a 5-speed automatic transmission that's a pretty rare find in this model, you'll find the inevitable stop and go conditions we all must face a lot easier to take. The 4-wheel power disc ABS brakes give it stopping ability as impressive as its get up and go, taking just 158 feet to get from 70mph to 0. That's only a little longer than a basketball court and a half! The 17" M3 rims are wrapped in low profile Yokohama tires befitting a car known so widely for its handling.
